The Greatest? Ask anyone who saw him play and you'll always get the same answer: "yes"

Today marks the anniversary of the death of one of United’s greatest ever players.

Duncan Edwards was a victim of the Munich air crash and although by rights he should have perished with many other of his team mates on that fateful night of 6th February, such was the battling nature and sheer physical excellence of the man, he fought on surviving for another 15 days.

Edwards is regarded by many as the finest of all the footballers the world lost that night in Munich. There seems no end to the amount of praise and accolades bestowed upon Edwards, there’s literally hundreds of quotes ranging from “colossus” to “the greatest” none  of which arguably do justice to a man who at the age of only 21 acheived more in the game than most men would in ten lifetimes.

Having never seen Edward’s play both mine and the generation above me were robbed of witnessing one of the true greats, who along with the rest of The Flowers of Manchester would without question have dominated world football for a decade.

We may have lost the chance to witness just what the Busby Babes would have acheived but thanks to the nature of Busby, our club and the fans, we’ll never ever forget them.
