Manuel Neuer

"Look into my eyes, can't you see their open wide would I lie to you baby..."

Following Tuesday’s performance in the Champions League, Schalke ‘keeper Manuel Neuer has seen his transfer value rise through the stratosphere.

Although only a few days ago it seemed that the German stopper was destined for Bayern Munich in the Summer there have now been reports that Sir Alex Ferguson could be preparing to try and hijack the deal.

The Telegraph notes:

“Bayern’s path to signing Neuer appears to have been complicated by the keeper’s stunning display against United, however. And Schalke sporting director Horst Heldt insists that the club will not be bullied into selling Neuer, despite his admission last week that he will not renew his contract, which expires in June next year.

“Heldt said: “His value on the transfer market is already very high. I don’t know if it can still go up, but watching this match [against United], I said to myself, ‘Why sell such a player?’

“We have the world’s best goalkeeper and, after the United game, people in 140 countries now know this. But the fact is that we have a contract with Neuer that runs until 2012 and that is the only thing that counts.

“I know the mechanics of this business and, if a club offers 100 million for him, then you cannot expect me to say that he is not for sale.

“But we have seen his value to us and money cannot quantify his contribution in all competitions, so we are very relaxed about the situation.”

“Neuer’s tearful admission that he would cut his ties with Schalke, having arrived at the club as a six-year-old prodigy, prompted an angry backlash from supporters, who regard the prospect of a move to Bayern – Schalke’s bitter rivals – as little short of treachery.

“The keeper also faces a battle for hearts and minds at the Allianz Arena, however, should he pursue a move to Bayern. Such is the animosity between the two clubs that Neuer was greeted with banners declaring ‘No Neuer Here!’ when Schalke played Bayern in Munich last month.

“Neuer is already an unpopular figure among Bayern supporters after celebrating a Schalke victory two seasons ago by mimicking former Bayern keeper Oliver Kahn’s trophy-lifting celebration in front of the Munich fans.”

Despite the animosity between Bayern and Schalke the smart money still seems to be on Neuer heading to Munich.

Although The Telegraph isn’t the only newspaper that believes there’s still a chance United could tempt Schalke- and more importantly Neuer with a higher offer.

The Star claims:  “Manchester United could yet hijack Manuel Neuer’s move from Schalke to Bayern Munich with a £24m mega-bid.

“The offer could be too much for Bayern to match, leaving United in pole position to sign the man regarded as one of the world’s best goalkeepers.”

Although if were completely honest it’s anyone’s guess whether Neuer and Schalke can be convinced that the ‘keeper’s future lies at Old Trafford, in an era where money increasingly seems to talk, there’s always a chance if United are prepared to launch a big bid, it may be enough to see Fergie pull off another famous transfer coup.

Van Der Sar has been Quoted as saying a keeper has been picked and that it’s not Neuer, I’m thinking De Gea

I’m thinking Stekelenburg, but time will tell. I’m also feeling that this summers transfer window, will be a summer of big signings..

i thought he was the clear choice for us even before tuesday nights display and after that audition it would be hard for fergie not to try for him.

if it were down to schalke he would be on his way to us, lets hope neuer gets his head turned by the biggest team in the world 😀

Are United About To Hijack Manuel Neuer Deal?

NO, I DO NOT THINK SO! I think (I even HOPE) we have already prepared ourselves for the loss of EVDS behind the scenes just to announce smthg as soon as the July 1st …

but who knows with SAF 🙂 in the end, we might have Bebé´s twin as the new goalie :-))

SAF knows best & SAF def. knows a similar mistake in the GK area shall be avoided this time around.

    COME ON UNITED!
