Will he be missed at Old Trafford?

Gabriel Obertan has completed his move to Newcastle United for an undisclosed fee,  signed a 5 year contract with the north east club.

Gabriel Obertan found his appearances for Manchester United limited in the wide positions by Nani, Valencia, Park and Giggs and is relishing the chance to play regular first team football for his new club.

Gabriel Obertan said: “I have come here with a lot of ambition.I just want to play football.”

Newcastle United’s manager Alan Pardew seemed happy with the deal:

“It’s good news for us. He is a player we have been after for some time. With Wayne Routledge moving on there was an opportunity to bring him in.”

“With his pace, power and versatility he is going to be an important player for us.”

Gabriel Obertan said in an exclusive interview with the Chronicle that he was looking forward to joining up with the Newcastle team, and in particular Hatem Ben Arfa.

“I have met Hatem on a few occasions.”

“It will be good to play alongside him and show what I can do.”

“It would be great to make a flying start at this club.”

“If I start or if I come on as sub I just want to make a good first impression, and give my best on the pitch.”

He is already familiar with a couple of players with ex Manchester United defender Danny Simpson plying his trade at St James’ Park as well as a large number of French players currently contracted to Newcastle United.

“It is good that I know some people already.

“It always helps at a club. I also know Danny Simpson from Old Trafford, so I am not coming into a place full of completely new faces.”

I feel that this is a good move for Gabriel Obertan. He has had chances in the first team limited at Manchester United having only made 14 league appearances, 4 of which were starts in the two seasons he spent at Old Trafford. I wish him the best of luck at his new club
