Will Welbeck start tonight?

Will Welbeck start tonight?

England take on Poland tonight in a World Cup qualifier in Warsaw knowing victory will put them in a strong position for making Brazil 2014.

Steven Gerrard reaturns as captain after missing the San Marino game through suspension, although Chelsaa duo Ryan Bertrand and Frank Lampard are out through injury.

The big question was whether boss Roy Hodgson would give Danny Welbeck a start, or go with Jermain Defoe as his main striker. Considering Welbeck was coming off the back of a brace for his country it seemed logical he’d start tonight, but ‘logic’ and ‘England’ seldom go together and Defoe gets the nod.

Tom Cleverley, who despite the rantings of a former Liverpool striker, had an excellent game against San Marino, starts again in midfield, alongside United team mate Michael Carrick.

It’s a double-edged sword for many United fans with England, most of us naturally want to see our club players representing their country but we don’t want them getting tired or injured, so eveseeing of Welbeck dropped isnt such a bad thing – even if we dont agree with it.

England starting XI v Poland: Hart, Johnson, Cole, Gerrard, Jagielka, Lescott, Milner, Carrick, Defoe, Rooney, Cleverley.
