Will the striker spearhead the Reds today? Forget the defeat to Arsenal in the FA Cup, forget the draws away at WBA, Aston Villa, Stoke City, Sunderland and Burnley, you can even forget the two defeats to Swansea. United’s real push for that coveted fourth spot begins today with the visit of Tottenham Hotspur, one of the few sides that can actually rival the Reds in the ‘frustratingly inconsistent’ stakes.

United cannot afford to drop points against a side it’s almost been taken for granted won’t make the top four, the problem is a win today for the North Londoners and not only does it throw another team into the mix for Champions League places, it severely damages the Reds chances- not to mention morale.

The knives are already out for Van Gaal by many Reds and if he is to silence the critics then a win against a side that even with the free scoring Harry Kane are very beatable is the perfect answer.

Here’s how the Reds could line up:

[ 4-3-3] David De Gea, Antonio Valencia, Phil Jones, Marcos Rojo, Luke Shaw, Michael Carrick, Daley Blind, Ander Herrera, Wayne Rooney, Adnan Januzaj, Radamel Falcao.

Do you agree?
