The Tines note United’s interest in the Liverpool winger

Transfers between United and Liverpool are about as common as a Steven Gerrard title-winning season but it appears that may all be about to change- the transfers that is not the Gerrard title win naturally.

With all the current dramas over Raheem Sterling’s contract with the Anfield club, reports suggest United could be set to try and take advantage of the situation with a bid aimed at trying to tempt Brendan Rodgers to part with his young winger. Initial reports in The TimesĀ suggest that any moves by United have been rebuffed outright by Liverpool and even a strong offer won’t receive anything other than ignorance from the Merseysiders. If any deal was to go through and it’s a huge “if” then it would surely take a bid of massive proportions, perhaps with a player making the move the other way too. Liverpool were thought to be keen on Javier Hernandez in the Summer and if United can find a common ground when it comes to player exchange then maybe that, with a fee could make the unthinkable happen.

It’s doubtful we’ll ever see the deal happen as Rodgers surely must realise selling Sterling to United would be a sure-fire way to lose the fans, we’ll just have to wait and see how far Louis Van Gaal is willing to go to test that theory…

There’s about as much chance of Liverpool selling sterling to manure as there is of manure ever winning 5 European cups.
