PEPEver since Sir Alex Ferguson declared Manchester City were like ‘noisy neighbours’ the din from the East side of town has been almost deafening.

With billions poured into the club City have become not just an irritant but a force to be reckoned with and true rivals to United- at least currently rather than historically-  whether we like to admit it or not. As both Manchester clubs have won four of the last five titles it’s reached the point where the next few seasons could be critical in deciding whether it’s the Red or Blue era of dominance we’re facing. Neither Manuel Pellegrini or Louis Van Gaal are likely to be around longer than the next 18 months and United and City could both be dipping into the same talent pool of managers to succeed them.

It’s not a given that United will appoint Giggs as Van Gaal’s successor and if they were to look elsewhere then Pep Guardiola would be top of the list- the problem is he’d be top of City’s too. Up until now it looked as though City would be able to convince Guardiola to join them once he’d finished at Bayern Munich but according to the Mail – it now seems as though he could be heading for Old Trafford rather than the Etihad.

A manager like Guardiola who’s twice won the Champions League- against United- could be ideal for the Reds and if the Mail is to be believed then it’s a move that could happen.
