Red’s new defender could face Everton in August

Jose Mourinho will be in the Old Trafford dugout before the season starts as Wayne Rooney’s testimonial game against Everton has been confirmed.

Mourinho will get the chance to show his new side to the home fans on August 3rd as Rooney celebrates 12 years at the club with a match against his former team.

Sky Sports notes:

Wayne Rooney will have his testimonial match against old club Everton on August 3, with all proceeds from the match going to charity.

In what will be Manchester United’s first home pre-season fixture in two years, it will also be Jose Mourinho’s first game in charge of the club at Old Trafford.

Rooney has been rewarded with the game following 12 years at the club after his move from Goodison Park in 2004.

United have fixtures against the likes of Borussia Dortmund and Manchester City this Summer but the game against Everton will be the Reds first home game with Mourinho at the helm. Rooney’s using the testimonial match as part of a series of events to raise money for the newly-founded Wayne Rooney Foundation which aims to provide funds for several children charities.

The game against Everton will also give fans a chance to see new defender Eric Bailly who completed his transfer from Villarreal on Wednesday.
