Manchester United are moving ahead with a £70m bid for Borussia Dortmund forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, report the Daily Mail.

Despite a stuttering season at Old Trafford, it was recently revealed the club have cash reserves £121.6m.

Chief executive Ed Woodward promised ‘star signings’ as the club desperately try to return to the elite standing they were in under Sir Alex Ferguson.

The likes of Gareth Bale, Neymar, Cristiano Ronaldo and Robert Lewandowski have all been linked with big money moves to Old Trafford.

However, the report claims a move for Dortmund’s Gabonese international is ‘more likely.’

The speedy 27-year old forward has been in sensational form in front of goal this season, scoring 27 goals this year.

He has previously been linked with moves to Arsenal, though little happened on that front.

Despite the increasing pressure Red Devils boss Louis van Gaal finds himself under, plans are moving ahead in regards to next year’s transfer target.

Players come and players go, as do the managers – we all know that.

However at Manchester United and Liverpool, this coming summer transfer window won’t be wide enough with the amount of comings and goings.

It will be interesting to say the least and a little un-nerving if you are a player at either of those clubs. To suggest that a major overhaul at Liverpool is due is probably an understatement. Klopp has had to work with what he was left with and ultimately, some of the players will possibly not be who he thinks he will need to mount a proper and concentrated assault on the Premier League next season.

Indeed, many of the Liverpool players, don’t look like Liverpool players. Klopp will look to re-shape his squad, but question marks might be asked over his January signing of Steven Caulker. Is this the type of player Klopp wants, and why if he’s going to play him out of position? Was it a knee-jerk reaction to the injury crisis and Anfield at the time?

Klopp certainly knew his stuff in the Bundesliga and every Liverpool fan will be hoping that he translates that knack to their club for next season. It’s likely he’ll be given more cash and more importantly, he’ll be given time.

As to who goes and stays, it’s anyone’s guess, but nobody will be able to rest on their laurels or their name! One player not making his way to the Premier League will be Alex Teixeira.

He decided that China was far more suitable than playing at Anfield, possibly helped by the extra zero’s on the end of the cheque from the Chinese club. Apart from the Brazilian, Klopp may have lost Joel Matip and Valencia have snatched Denis Cheryshev.

There will be changes, although it appears that after what amounts to a frustrating January window, Klopp is keeping his money safe until July. Rumours are always good and there is always talk of who will come through the Anfield gates, but certainly Klopp has his eye on another goalkeeper in Barcelona’s Marc-Andre ter Stegen. There is believed to be a massive £65m buy-out clause, but Klopp is adamant that he wants him.

Equally, the German has his eyes on former Manchester United man, Javier Hernandez and Real Madrid striker Jese Rodriquez. Other reports suggest Liverpool are readying a £10m bid for German defender Jonas Hector.

It will be a very different Liverpool side to this season. 2015/16 may well be a season to forget on Merseyside, but also the dawning of a new age.

Heading East, Manchester United will likely have a new manager by the summer transfer window. The fact their rivals Man City have announced the biggest managerial signing in Pep Guardiola means that United now need to do something equally as big in terms of the manager.

The fans are looking for a statement of intent from the club and it needs to be huge. Although Louis van Gaal has done his best, his style and man-management isn’t to the taste of the United players. £250m spent and they still cannot get into the top four or stay in the Champions League.

So who you gonna call? Well, Jose Mourinho, that’s who, and let’s face it, it’s another badly kept secret. If it is anyone other than Mourinho, many people will be astounded. His record of achievement stretches across Europe and it’s no secret that he really, really wants the job. He has his heart set on it.

Despite the fact there are as many reasons not to employ him, the man brings success and United desperately need success. United without a trophy is like a trifle without the jelly – something important is missing.

Like Liverpool, there will be an exit door held open in the summer breeze under Mourinho, as the new manager brings in his type of players. It’s interesting to note the lack of transfer activity in January at Old Trafford speaks volumes. The prospective arrival of Jose Mourinho, linked heavily with the United job in recent days, may afford some of the United first-team squad another opportunity to stake their claim for a first-team role.

Despite reported bids of £140m for Barcelona superstar Neymar, United are linked with Atletico Madrid’s Antoine Griezmann, but as usual this type of player is subject to interest from many clubs. Plus the fact United used to be able to attract top names and now that has changed.

The name stands proud, but the lack of success is the anchor weighing down the club and that has knock-on effects. Will David De Gea stay or go, will a new manager shed the majority of the first team since the majority do not impress week in, week out? Aymeric Laporte of Athletic Bilbao, Real Madrid’s Raphael Varane and Everton’s John Stones are three options in defence for United, but that is supposing it is Mourinho coming in and he wants those players. What if Pochettino comes in? Would he entice Harry Kane?

There are so many possibilities, so sit back and enjoy because this summer is going to be one of the hottest.

While the possibility of Guus Hiddink’s side winning trophies this season is still a reality, a Premier League title, or even a top four finish is way out of reach. The West London side now has an opportunity to play spoiler to some of their rivals, and those in relegation territory during the final stretch of the season.

We’ve seen Chelsea find their form under their Dutch interim in recent weeks. They’ve even started to develop their reputation as a spoiler in 2016 thus far. Three weeks ago, they created a speed bump on the road to another title for Arsenal with a 1-0 victory at the Emirates.

Arsenal have slipped in the title race recently and the Blues capitalised on the opportunity widen the gap between their London rivals and the top spot. The Gunners currently sit in second, tied with Tottenham at five points behind leaders Leicester City.

Last week we saw Manchester United, a club in the hunt for a top four finish, take a second half lead against Chelsea only for Diego Costa to equalise late on. The stellar performance from David de Gea was not enough to keep the persistent Chelsea attack out. Three points would’ve been key for United as they would’ve only been four points adrift of City for a Champions League spot.

Looking at some of Chelsea’s fixtures in the final months of the season, they have matches against Southampton, Liverpool, West Ham, Manchester City, Tottenham and a season finale hosting Cinderella story Leicester City. All of these matches are against teams that are either in search of the title, a Champions League spot or a chance to play in the Europa League.

Chelsea have has the opportunity to play villain in the bottom three. They will face all three teams in the relegation zone, as well as Newcastle, who sit just one point clear of that mark during the remainder of the campaign.

With Chelsea coming into their natural form as of late, these matches could fare poorly for those they’re up against. Great performances from Oscar and Diego Costa and the back four in recent matches have carried the team to good results, and if players like Eden Hazard can step up the Blues could really shake up the outcome of the league.

The match against Leicester City on the final day could be the most important fixture of the season. With the title race still tight, the league could be won or lost for the Foxes at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea should focus much of their attention on the Champions League and the FA Cup, but it’s obvious that they will not go quietly in the final weeks of the Premier League.

The trophy belongs to Chelsea and now they can decide who to give it to.

Manchester United defender Matteo Darmian will be ruled out for ‘several weeks’ with a dislocated shoulder, report BBC Sport.

The Italian defender was injured in the 2-1 loss away to Sunderland at the Stadium of Light earlier today.

The former Torino defender clashed with Wahbi Khazri and was duly replaced by debutant Donald Love.

An Italian international, he moved to Old Trafford in the summer though has struggled with niggling injuries since.

With Luke Shaw, Ashley Young and Marcos Rojo also out injured, Red Devils chief Louis van Gaal finds his options limited.

Callum Borthwick-Jackson has been promoted to the first-team as a result of the injury crisis the club find themselves entrenched in.

“We don’t have any more full-backs in this club,” stated Van Gaal.

“I have to line up a 13-year-old guy or someone like that.”

United find themselves six points off the pace in the race for a Champions League spot, with just 12 games to go.

Despite a relative up turn in fortunes recently, Manchester United sunk to their first ever loss at the Stadium of Light in the Premier League today.

The Red Devils are now six points off the top four and look increasingly unlikely to reach the Champions League next season, barring a win in the Europa League.

Manager Louis van Gaal has faced intense criticism surrounding his position in charge of the Red Devils, with every loss seemingly spelling an end to his tenure.

Though he’s survived thus far, the daunting figure of Jose Mourinho appears to loom over Old Trafford.

There is mounting speculation that the former Chelsea and Real Madrid chief will be handed the reins at the Theatre of Dreams at the end of the season.

While the controversial 52-year old has divided opinion, the loss in the North East earlier has seen fans on Twitter clamour for his arrival.

Manchester United are eyeing Lille winger Sofiane Boufal, according to French news outlet Le10 Sport.

The rousing success of Anthony Martial since his £36m move to Old Trafford this summer has reportedly prompted their interest.

Martial, who scored a deft chip in the loss to Sunderland today, has thoroughly impressed since an expensive transfer from Monaco.

Though the Red Devils are yet to act on their interest for the 22-year old winger, the manner in which their French striker has adapted to life is said to have encouraged them.

The tricky Moroccan winger has notched six goals for Lille this season and has emerged as one of the hottest talents in Ligue 1.

Arsenal and Manchester City are also understood to have scouted the former Angers man in recent times, such is his form.

He’s drawn comparisons to Chelsea winger Eden Hazard, who also developed as a winger while on the books at Lille.

Sam Allardyce is doing what Sam Allardyce does best by making a real fist of retaining Premier League survival.

The Black Cats are now just a paltry point off North East rivals Newcastle who sit above the relegation zone, moving ahead of Norwich City.

They got there through a late headed winner from Lamine Kone, who continues to impress on Wearside since his January move from Lorient.

Clearly, it was much to the delight of the Sunderland faithful, who’s unlikely escape from relegation gathers pace. Yet again. For about the third year in a row.

Still, the goal has had a much wider effect on Manchester United as a whole, who have been condemned to yet another loss.

Though the infamously dubious goal panel may well mark it down as an own goal for David De Gea, the imposing Sunderland centre-back is feeling the love on Twitter.

Louis van Gaal, however, really is not.

Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane is determined to keep Raphael Varane at the club, report the Daily Mail.

As former Los Blancos boss Jose Mourinho continues to be linked with Manchester United, there had been reports Varane could be a prime target.

The Frenchman emerged as first-teamer in the Spanish capital while under the management of the self-proclaimed ‘Special One’.

Despite recent injury problems, the 22-year old is widely thought to be one of the most talented defenders in European football.

His countryman, and manager, insists the former Lens youngster will be a major player at the Santiago Bernabeu for many years to come.

‘Of course it is normal Mourinho would want to sign Raphael’, conceded the World Cup winner.

He knows him well, he bought him here to the club.’

The French international signed a six-year deal as recently as 2014, meaning the La Liga giants are under no pressure to sell.

‘He is the future of the club.’

Manchester United’s season took yet another turn for the worse as they fell to defeat at the Stadium of Light, after a pretty bland performance.

Van Gaal’s men did manage to find the net, but it wasn’t enough when their defence could not hold strong against the set piece prowess of an Allardyce side. LvG can give all the excuses he wants in each press conference, but a performance like this will only draw more criticism and his sides seem incapable of scoring and keeping a clean sheet in the same game.

For a club associated with such flair and attacking intent, that is the bare minimum, let alone the prospect of finishing in the Europa League places.

The Red Devils are left to wonder what might have been and they will be looking down towards West Ham and the rest rather than pushing to join in the title battle above them. It is surely a matter of time before big changes come at Old Trafford…

Here are FIVE things we learned from today’s game..

Rather appropriately with Valentines Day looming, Manchester United included young Donald Love in their match day squad for the game with Sunderland today.

The 21-year old defender was introduced in place of Matteo Darmian as the Red Devils continue to be dogged by injuries to their full-backs.

The Italian now joins Antonio Valencia, Luke Shaw, Ashley Young and Marcos Rojo as key options in such a berth to be ruled out.

The academy graduate has seriously impressed fans on social media after making his shock debut in the top flight.

Even more impressive perhaps, is the number of puns being banded around as a result of Love’s excellence, on this of all weekends.

Included are some of the best puns on Twitter for the latest United academy graduate.

The Scottish under-21 international also shares his name with an infamous character in Grand Theft Auto 3, much to the delight of social media users.
