United's academy celebrate Lingard's opener

Manchester United’s academy side draw 2-2 with Sheffield United in the first leg of the FA Youth Cup final at Bramhall Lane.

A debatable Jesse Lingard opener, which was Geoff Hurst 1966-esque opened the scoring before the Blades replied with a wonder strike from Callum McFadzen.

Will Keane put United ahead in the second half before Jordan Slew set up a mouth watering second leg at Old Trafford next Monday- I urge all Reds to be there!

Here’s all the goals.

I really hope Pogba gets a look at first team football soon.

Fantastic result for the United youth at a packed Bramall lane, attendance 29,777, biggest attendance of the season, in fact 18 months, bye some 6000 fans. The power of a great match and it was.The lads move on to next Monday at Old Trafford to finish of the Blades although they are a tough side as proven in the semi final beating the impressive villa side, home over two legs.
I must say(that sound’s gay) not a reference to some knob head Tennis commentator,Jordan slew was magnificent, as i mentioned elsewhere(fell into nothing) he in seven appearances for the Blades first team scored two goals, and showed his class tonight with a great goal, and an awsome performance for them.
Our lads were like the first team as you expect and Paul McGuiness like his senior…SAF built into the lads never say die, which they did throughout the game, on a poor pitch at Bramall lane, dry and bumpy and not suited to Uniteds slick passing.
The Goals from Jesse Lingard was a bit Jammy, while the Blades defensive player could have been carded(red) in my opinion goal(Goal line technology strikes again). The premiership referee in charge of the game 26 yr old Micheal Oliver, USED common sense. Yikes thats unusual right!
As you expect from a ‘true’ United player in the making Will Keane, on 69 mins tucks one away, from great play from the marvelous Pogba to pick out Lingard to swing in a cross the Blades goal keeper parries to the on running Keane.
    It was magic.
    The lads did brilliant.
Sorry if this is disjointed and a bit fuzzy, I AM SO chuffed for the lads.
Cmon United youth next Monday at the Theatre of Dreams.

6000 ? Actual away end held 3856 last night. Whereabouts in the South are you from?

      • Darren says:

Errr I think he was saying that the attendance was 6000 bigger than the previous highest attendance. Don’t think he was saying there was 6000 away fans.

        • RedScot says:

Hi Darren thats what I was trying to say in haste.
It was Sheffield United’s highest attendance in 18 months, bye some 6 Thousand fans.
In my enthusiasm for the result for the lads my post came across all wrong.None the less it was a brilliant result on a tough ground to get a win.
Tonight on M.U.T.V it will be fabulous to see which one of these rising stars receives the Academy player of the year award, along with the other awards.Starts 7.30, will be a great watch as normal.Cheers.

Fair comments mate. I thought Man Utd slightly edged it in the 1st half and the mighty blades had the 2nd half.
Man Utd unsuprisingly have some great talent in that side and a lot of them are sure to have successfull careers ahead of them.
I can say the same for our lads who put up a fantastic performance as well! Quite a few of ours will be 1st team players next campaign for sure!
    Well proud of them 🙂

Well done to both teams for providing a great match last night and roll on next Monday

The winners on the night were the local players.

Sheffield were passed to death and were lucky to get a draw. Our local lads went into an intimidating atmosphere and weren’t fazed in the slightest. The technicality of our team barca would be proud of. Morrison, blackett, cole, lingard, tunnicliffe, thorpe, keane x2, johnston. All top class talents from the manchester area. Add pogba, van velzen, fornasier, cofie, dhaeli, barmby, rudge etc. This is possibly the greatest set of youth players this country has seen since fergie’s fledlings. Credit to our fantastic academy set up and to fergie for weaving his magic in yet another aspect of our club.

        “lucky to get a draw”

Hmm. How about lucky to get the first goal which has been shown categorically NOT to be a goal. Which would have made the result a 2 – 1 loss for Manchester.

I’m all for supporting your team but WITHOUT the red tinted glasses – SOME of the Manchester lads were very good as were SOME of the United lads but what we did get was a good game of football played in the right spirit.

  5. Slartibartfarst says:

Good match. Though both teams could have scored 3/4 more each!
One thing I noted with interest – when SUFC got a free kick at least 2 or 3 MUFC players approached the ref or stood/moved/kept the ball or both.
Are the PL teams teaching this “tactic” to their youth teams? They were also more prepared to backchat the referee – strange again seeing as how they’d been awarded a goal that was never a goal.
The SUFC players just left the ball and organised themselves.

  6. Blades Guy says:

Great game, and probably even better for any neutrals watching (there were Sheffield Wednesday fans and Barnsley fans in attendance, Man Utd dominated the first half until the missile strike from McFadzean, which seemd to rattle them for a while, second half started the same but then Sheff Utd seemed to get a second wind and it was all blades for about 15-20 minutes.

A draw was probably a fair result, in fact I think these two teams have drawn twice this season already?

Makes Monday look like it could be a cracker!

  7. douglas kay says:

It’s quite amazing the ignorance being shown by some posters, both teams are called United and the Sheffield one is where football was first played. The only difference between the two clubs is that Manchester United have an ambitious board of directors.

The sad part for the Sheffield youngsters is they will probably be sold to the likes of Manchester very soon.

  8. lingsbord says:

“Sheffield” were passed to death and lucky to get a draw ?????

First point: When your commentators keep referring to “United” they should have the respect to recognise that the very first team to use the term “UNITED” in their name was SHEFFIELD UNITED.

Second point: Please refer to us as Sheffield united, and not just Sheffield. There are allegedly two teams in Sheffield. Would you like it if we just called you “Manchester” ???

Final point: Your lot couldn’t keep the ball for the bulk of the second half. How we were “passed to death” is beyond me. 3 games this season, 3 draws. I don’t care how many you win by at Old Trafford, some of those players coming through that will soon be in your first team have come up against some real quality, both in play and in spirit. We’re League 1 FFS!………….UTB!!!!

There’s only one ORIGINAL United !!!!!!!

  9. Johnston says:

    Well done United.

You’ve done us proud this season, unlike the first team… now lets go to Old Trafford and finish Man U off! 🙂

    Up the Blades.x

  10. Jonno says:

united should finish them off at OT with goals from morrison and keane 2-0

    • Slartibartfarst says:

United don’t have players called Morrison and Keane, oh you meant the other United. Thought you were talking about our little League 1 outfit who beat you 2-1 the other night – oh no, you managed a draw with a little help from a flag waving friend.
