Wesley Sneijder

Is the Dutchman heading to Old Trafford?

United are locking horns with noisy neighbours Manchester City over the signing of Wesley Sneijder according to the Manchester Evening News.

The M.E.N claims:

“Both City and United want the inspirational 27-year-old and a head-to-head between Manchester’s big two is underway for the player who would be able to demand a £200,000-a-week salary.

“Inter Milan president Massimo Moratti has indicated he has had word from Sneijder that he wants to stay at the San Siro, but that won’t put off Blues boss Roberto Mancini.

“I have spoken to Maicon, Sneijder and Eto’o and they have all told me they want to continue with us,” Moratti revealed.”

Despite the Inter president’s statement, there’s a growing feeling that Sneijder is on his way out of the San Siro, not least due to some rather less than reassuring statement’s the Dutch playmaker has made.

Sneijder recently made a ‘only God knows the future’ type comment that was reminscent of Cristiano Ronaldo when he was on his way out of Old Trafford.

I’ve long questioned whether United actually need Sneijder, due to the ability of Chicharito and Wayne Rooney together with the latter operating ‘in the hole’ so to speak.

The last thing I’d want to see is us paying way over the odds, both in transfer fee and wages due to entering some form of bidding war with a club who have literally no restrictions on what they can spend.

If Sneijder would rather ply his trade at a team who struggle to get 40,000 fans each week and have less history than Nottingham Forest then City are welcome to him.

If he does end up at Old Trafford, I only hope Sir Alex Ferguson finds a way to accomodate him that doesn’t mean sacrificing a partnership which could carry United to the 20th title next season.

Less history than Forest? And I thought it was us that were supposed to be bitter. What a clown
Struggle to get 40,000? I suppose you were one of the 200,000 at your home coming parade were you? Or one of the 30,000 empty seats that saw you lot play wolves last season? Haha You really are the new bitters.

Oh you mean in the carling cup?
There were 75,000 thousand there for the Crawley game.
Funny your calling us the ‘new bitters’ when your on a United blog/site.

Old habits really die hard don’t they?

It crops up NewsNow and other news aggregators, maybe if the writer focussed on Niteds bid to sign him, we wouldn’t have bothered to comment. But he tried a couple of digs, looked foolish and now so do you…

I love how the bitters were the first to post on this article.

It’s ironic that calling a bitter a bitter makes them even more bitter and then they spew more bitter garbage…a self fulfilling prophecy if ever there was one.

I also like how “Blue Carlos” (I’m not going to take a pot shot on the name…it’s too easy) refers to us as the “new bitters”. Is that an implicit assumption that you recognise yourself to be the “old bitters”? Round these places you’ll always just be perennial BITTERS.

Now on the matter of Sneijder…
I appreciate the sentiment of the article but I still feel like United need a marquee signing. A name that will get fans excited.

I almost lost my mind the year we signed Veron and I know most of mates did too, of course that didn’t turn out so good, but it was exciting.

Signing Evra and Vidic wasn’t as thrilling from a fan point of view, they were relative, unknowns,…but turned out to be phenomenal buys.

So what I’m saying is – I know marquee signing don’t necessarily mean fantastic performers but this season I’d like to see one. I’d like to see the type of player that strikes fear into opponents just because of their sheer audacity of messi-esque skill. That would make me happy.

sorry are u saying city better then utd??? all over the world u find man utd supporters..and where are man city fans???? believe me if u live in malta u dont find a single person supporting city..shame on u to say that!!!

1 cup in 35 years is your history, easy to count. There’s no way Sneidjer would go to city, even if Tevez was convinced to stay another 6 months. City had a good season in a year that it is said the prem was the weakest ever, £300,000,000.00 ,may have been spent to take them there but next year they will be competing against improved teams. Look forward to another long spell with out a cup,

“f Sneijder would rather ply his trade at a team who struggle to get 40,000 fans each week” That’s just laughable and untrue, by what let facts get in the way of a snide comment.

Fact is we’re in the ascendancy, you’re looking more and more like you’re edging towards decline, laugh it up…

    • Justin Mottershead says:

I’m at a loss as to how nine points clear at the top last season, a CL final, having the likes of the Da Silvas, Chicharito, Cleverley, Smalling and Jones, not to mention winning the FA Youth Cup, puts us in decline.

Like you said, or tried to say but couldn’t string the sentence together coherently, “never let the facts get in the way of a snide comment.”

  4. Rolee says:

I think you’ll find there are restrictions on what City can spend numb nuts.

    • HeavyRiffs says:

Of course there are, but nowhere near as restrictive as Nited’s…

      • Rolee says:

Depends how generous Ocean Finance are feeling or should that be the Qatari Royal family? 😉

I don’t mind you city boys, you actually played some great football this year. However, you do understand that every player you buy is purchased via an Arab loan. He will not write this debt off, and if he gets bored and off loads you he will drain your club of everything to cut his losses. The same applies to Chelsea.

The best approach city could make now is investment in your youth system, which was actually good already.

  5. rooneycheatswithwhores says:

I just wonder if you could answer in all honesty, what do you think that man u would be getting in attendances if you had the success or failure that man city have had over the years?
i dont expect this to get published, but having a go at our fanbase is calling the kettle black, as i recall you had an attendance of just over 17000 when you were on the verge of sacking saf in the early days, so please harp on about fanbase when clearly if your club had a huge barron spell without success then i believe your prawn munching brigade would probably be in the chelsea stands.

You united fans are the biggest bunch of retards ever! Just Accept that city are gonna be better then you! and theres nothing you can do about it!

Nited don’t do marque signings any more, stop shopping at Harrods with City and start thinking more Primark…

I will forgive your ignorance because I don’t like arguing with bitter muppets.

Also, I realise that your rather uncouth behaviour on this forum is largely due to your upbringing and I will therefore lay the blame squarely on you parents.

        • Curtis Patrick says:

How can we just ‘accept’ it without a single plausible argument for your case in any of the above City comments ? It’s all just hot air and bravado, hence the term ‘noisy neighbours’ ! The ‘decline’ argument has been peddled out every year for the last 10, 12, 13…oh Christ I’ve lost count really. Not one City, Liverpool, Chelsea or any fan from any club has come up with a decent case for the so called ‘decline’ argument !

  8. Southern Blue says:

Man City are subject to the same EUFA “Fair Play” rules as Utd.
This means that City can only spend what they earn. As Utd earn more than City, then Utd can spend more than City.
So don´t pretend that Sneijder will only go to City for the money. If its money he´s worried about he´ll go to Utd. The only reason he´d go to City is if he considers that City can offer him a more successful future.

Actually not so long ago there was a survey done where it showed that were more season ticket holders from the manchester post code than there are season ticket holders in the City of Manchester Stadium. There goes that myth then hey….

Infact Ricky Hatton’s own Brother is a Man Utd supporter, and Hatton is one of THE most popular of the Shitty fans.
