Valencia signs a new contract

Manchester United today confirmed that Antonio Valencia has signed a new 4 year contract with the club. Valencia, who joined United from Wigan in 2009, had two years remaining on his current deal.

Antonio Valencia has signed a new four-year deal which will keep the winger at Old Trafford until the end of the 2014/15 season.

Valencia, who joined United from Wigan in 2009, had two years remaining on his current deal. Since joining he has made 69 appearances for the club, scoring 10 goals winning  both the Premiership and the Carling Cup once.

Sir Alex Ferguson said: “Antonio has made a fantastic contribution since his arrival. His speed, crossing ability and versatility have been a big asset for us.

“He has a quiet, unassuming way of going about his business, which is underlined by great strength of character – as his recovery from such a bad injury last season proves.”

Valencia said: “I am delighted to stay at United. Since my first day at Carrington, I have been happy here. I hope that I can continue to develop as a player.

“I am looking forward to making my contribution to helping this squad compete for more trophies.”

I for one am glad that he has signed a new contract. Since joining he has played a major role in Manchester United’s successes.
