"CR7 who?!"

Nani has been speaking of his determination to move out of the ‘next Ronaldo’ label shadow and build on the success of last season.

The Portuguese winger told Inside United magazine:

“Last year was my best year, definitely my most consistent season.”

“Now I hope this is my year. I will do my best. If I am fit for every game, I am 100% sure I will do my best and will do well for my team. This is a big chance to show I can do much more, that I’m a good player with a very strong mentality. I always work hard to be successful and help my team to win titles.”

Speaking of how long he’d been at the club Nani said:

“It’s true. I’m one of the old players now. This is my fifth season here and yes, five years is enough to learn everything about this club. I’ve been in the most important moments of this club in the last few years, and it’s great, the life I’ve had here.”

Nani seems destined to be forever in Ronaldo’s shadow sometimes, a view that he’s aware of himself:

“For five years, every time the question is the same,” he said. “It’s all about Ronaldo. You have to be him. Are you doing the same? Do you think you can do it now?

“Always when I do something good it’s the same. When I do OK, it’s nothing. When I do something very good, they come with this question about him. But it’s OK. It doesn’t change anything in me. This is my fifth year here and people know what I can do. Sometimes I play a nice game, sometimes I play not such a fantastic game, but I think everyone knows me and what I can do. Maybe my form has to be more consistent and my performances in the past should be like that.

“Now I’m in this position I’m more confident, more consistent. I can do for 90 minutes what in the past I just did for 45, and that’s the most important thing.

“I don’t need to show anything to anyone because I know who I am, which player I am, and now I just need to put everything on the pitch.

“When I do that, I do it for me, for my family and for my team. Of course I know when I do that, it’s always for the fans as well.

“They take everything good from the game. They love goals and skills as well. But I don’t do it for the media because when you try to do it for the media, nothing goes well. I think the most important thing is to be natural and play the way you are.”

Nani seems to have got over the small slump he suffered at the end of last season, and while he’s still not firing on all cylinders he’s still been a threat and if he can repeat the form he showed for the first two thirds of last season then maybe that Ronaldo shadow can finally be removed.

in trying to be a big player he has been extremely selfish lately and has been the most frustrating player to watch this season. his antics against arsenal was disgusting, going for ridiculous chips at 3-1 and arsenal looking dangerous, finish the game off properly first

    • One United says:

      extremely selfish,the most frustrating ???
It’s just 3 games into the season and you’re yapping madly!! you’re antics as a fan are disgusting!

    • jetelinho says:

your post was bad even if it was a JOKE only???!!! Nani is an excellent player, individually the best in our squad & in last 2-3 seasons has been doing very very well for United – debils is a Pity fan most probabl anyway … UNITED RULE

  2. lamar says:

    i like his attitude.

    @dibilis

Agreed he frustrated Rooney also . I also think he can be easily Bullied . Its no coincidence that the clattering from carrigher took the wind out of his sails last season . We need him sparked up this time around .Also looking for his options on the pitch .

  4. michelism says:

Not d biggest fan of Nani for his selfishness & frustrating play-style!I prefer Valencia & Young because they are much more hard-working & serious players.Although he’s more skillful than both but Young is a far better player!

    • One United says:

As long as Nani wears the red shirt of United,
No so call United fans should slag him off!!
Show some respect to the players who work their ass off!! And show some respect to United ffs!

  5. ahmad says:

i’m fuc***** frustrated by dis useless hatred some people calling dirself utd fans have for one of utd best players personally i love ando but when he’s not playing well i know and when he’s @ it i know but still Nani has been far better but no one say a word about anderson… nani d best

Wow, you lot are rich. He hasn’t had the greatest start to the season yet people have already forgotten that we would have been up the river without a paddle if it weren’t for him last season. For all the great that the likes of Rooney and Chico bring to the squad, if people can’t see that he played a vital role in winning number 20 last season, I’d recommend a memory check.

The lad’s a great player and that deserves to be recognised and appreciated, but there are just some people who would comfortably prefer to keep their head in the sand and their opinions of him will seemingly never change. Which is an awful shame.

I couldn’t agree more. Nani was definitely instrumental last season, he isn’t Ronaldo and never will be. But he plays a part that no one can emulate to a tee. People oughta stop hatting.

I think Nani has turned into a player of real quality; a player who other teams will fear. Yes he is frustrating sometimes, but what he brings to the team 75% of the time, far out-weights the other 25% of the time he shoots when he should pass etc…
I think Valencia has his work cut of for him the earn his place back.

  9. Ez says:

Nani scores, and highest assists. But stil some funs say Valencia is better! Valencia can’t even score… We would have won the league last season but one against Blackburn, Valencia was one on one against the goalkeeper and he didn’t score! He can’t score! Do you thing Valencia could have done what Nani did against City last month?
Just like Berbatov the two most skilled players are underated, hated, booed by own fans. That’s why Barca will always beat us if we keep such skillful players on the bench.

    • Adam says:

The reason SAF will pick Valencia over Nani when hes back from injury is because Nani is too selfish. Don’t get me wrong i’m a big fan of Nani but there are times when he is fustrating such as when he tried that chip against Arsenal. Also when he disallowed Ronaldos wonder goal vs Spain playing for portugal.Whereas Valencia will always look for a cross. Rooney prefers that and since he is our star man, SAF will go for Valencia. I personally think both players are great so i’m not bothered who SAF picks. 🙂

are we really arguing? como on. really? nani is a very good player. a lil inconsistent at times and selfish but he is WORLD CLASS.

don’t forget that we got the precious 19 because of him and berbatov.
