Ravel Morrison

Is Ravel ready for the first team?

When the team was announced for Tuesday’s game against Benfica, there seemed to be a collective Red groan that Darron Gibson had made the bench, seemingly at the expense of Ravel Morrison.

It amazed me as I scanned the wonderful interweb, how many United fans were incredulous at the fact Gibson, a player who’d helped the team through to the Champions League final with a goal against Schalke in his last European appearance, was in the squad, while Morrison wasn’t.

I’ve long advocated giving Morrison a chance in the first team, not only as he could add some much needed enthusiasm and skill to a side which at times seems lacking in both, but also because the added responsibility could help the youngster move away from the nonsense which has almost derailed his career.

The upcoming fixtures for United are ones that could be ideal fpr giving an untried youngster a chance in the first team as with all due respect to our opponents, while they’re not ‘easy’ after all as last season, proved there are no long any ‘easy’ games in the Premier League, they’re not the most difficult games either.

There is a flip side to the argument though, the idea that for a player such as Morrison who’s obviously had his problems, patience may be a better option, after all, as I’ve already mentioned the games United have coming up should be winnable without a untried teenager.

Personally I’d like to see Morrison given a chance sooner rather than later, but if he isn’t it may well prove to be another masterstroke from Sir Alex Ferguson, as when the time comes, the Mancunian will be truly ready to make the step up.

What do my fellow Reds think, is it time to give Morrison a chance? Does fortune favour the brave? Or is it better not to rush this precocious talent?

Gibson on the bench says “we can no longer compete for talent”. Even if Morrison delivered as bland a contribution it would at least be a nod to the future.

Gibson has had his chances and he blew them. The fact he almost looks a contender speaks more to the impoverished state of our midfield. The fact he sat on the bench while Pogba and Morrison didn’t should get recalled the day we lose one or both of these talents.

he has it all, speed, skill, both footed, can cross, shoot. he just needs to sort his life out. its best not to rush him, wait for the time for the fruit to ripen. if he gets into the team now it cud be a huge gamble as he cud be the next ronaldo or be an ungrateful pig like baloteli. more likely the latter.

Imo Ravel shall be given a chance to play with the first team from tomorows game with the magpies.is time to upgrade him into the senior squard so as to learn more from them.

Ravel Morrison is the best young talent in england in my opinion including jack wilshere(he’s just been given his chance and he took it) It wouldn’t be a rush in my eyes rooney wilshere c.ronaldo walcott and there are others played games at the age he is now.Ravel will be a quality player regardless of what happens but he should be given the chance to play with the proper players like rooney nani young evra ferdinand etc playing with world class players will make him even better than he is now..FACT!

Ravel is still green. A fantastic player for sure, but you need CL experience and Gibson has that. It’s sad to say that the biggest problem for Ravel is his maturity. Because skill wise, he’s a great footballer.

I personally think the manager works in this way, “If your good enough, your old enough”
This applies to Ravel and Paul Pogba and all the younger players at the football club.
It is my feeling however, bye pushing him at an early stage could if he hits the barrier’s, eg is not a success in which ever role he was given.Could potentially knock his confidence sideways and harm his undoubted potential.
It would ideally be an advantage for both Ravel and Paul to start playing in the team, when it was on the crest of the wave and winning confidently.Which United on current form are not.
This period of uncertainty demands in my opinion the more experienced professionals at United, to continue to dig out results until the swagger returns.
I for one did not groan when I saw Darron Gibsons name on the team sheet, its a squad game of 25.
We simply cannot have 14 players of magnificent quality sitting around on the bench. They will not tolerate this.If he is happy to play his part on an occasional basis, we should accept this and applaud him for his efforts.
Ravel was at Old Trafford, however for the match, for experience. I saw him arrive of the team Coach.

Comming from Hyde i imagine i have a similar mentality, if they are big enough and good enough
    PLAY THEM.

I don’t want to say it negatively, but i think Ravel should be giving a chance. We don’t know when will SAF retire and it is better to give him game time now so that SAF can monitor the progress.

hes the best young player in the league/ what the reserve leagueif he cant get in that crap midfield on manures how could he be better than wilshire ,what ever you smoking put it down its clouding your tiny brain.

    • RedScot says:

Oz Sweetheart, who is this “manures” you write of?.
As for smoking and tiny brain.I think you have displayed to us all….You fit the bill.

George Best had his first game at just over seventeen. So how old do they need to be?
But I suppose one cannot compare them to perfection.
Both Pogba and Morrison need to be let loose even if it is only for 10-20min at the end of a game.
On the down side, if they prove to be duds (Pogba contract. Morrison character) it might improve their sale value.
