Super Sunday, certainly lived up to its billing as Manchester did the double over North London, with City beating Spurs 3-2 at Eastlands and United beating Arsenal 2-1 at the Emirates.
In the early kick off City were 2-0 up against Spurs before the Londoners came back to make it 2-2 however, there was some controversy.
Joleon Lescott appeared to smash his forearm into Younus Kaboul’s face, while Mario Balotelli seemed to stamp on Scott Parker’s head.
To compound Spurs’ misery Balotelli then went on to score the penalty which won the game for City.
The question on everyone’s lips- not least us Reds, was ‘should Lescott and Balotelli have been sent off?
‘Arry Redknapp certainly thought the young Italian should’ve been sent off , the Spurs manager told Sky Sports:
“It looked like a penalty, I’ve not seen a replay – but the boy who scored the penalty shouldn’t have been on the pitch,” Redknapp said.
“He kicked Scott Parker in the head. He does it a lot, he backheeled him in the face and cut his head. No one can make excuses that he didn’t do it, anyone can see he did do it.”
It’s decisions like today that can win or lose titles, although its only January, if City do prevail, then we may look back at thsee decisions as being seminal.
Were Lescott and Balotelli lucky? Have a look at these pics and make your own mind up.
ok..Balotelli did stamp and should have been sent off…are people forgetting that Defoe should have scored to make it 3-2. If he did then the game would have completely changed, it would have started again from the middle and that Ledders tackle probably wouldn’t of had to be made. Citeh would have had their heads dropped in dissapointment and would never of got near the goal.
On first seeing the stamp it looked deliberate and replays show it was clearly deliberate. Trust the FA will deal with Baloteli and also give Webb a few weeks off to let his sight return.
im not defending the two incidents, but take a close look at the penalty, i thought scissor tackles were banned, so should king have walked???
We proved we are still a good team without Ady and Defoe was great considering he led the line at 5ft7 manfully. We could have played Pav and Defoe because Van never started his engine also Harry should have brought on Dawson too help King who must have bean tired.
Good game – both evenly matched teams and we gave City possibly the biggest fright they’ve had this season and were an inch away from winning the game. They go down the other end and Ledley makes his one mistake of the season. It’s the final few minutes that makes it so hard to bear
No other team has won there in the league this season and we should have.
It’s not completely gone but we need to win all games and hope that City slip up somewhere down the line. We need to get through Febuary and still be in touch as our run in, on paper, is easier than Citys.
No hangover against Wigan please. COYS
Spurs unlucky not to get a point yesterday. Didn’t think in real time it was a stamp and the replays make it look worse. No reaction from the Spurs players and Webb had a good view of it. Still at least we beat Arsenal to keep the pressure on the noisy neighbours. Long way to go.
Dont know where you got the quotes, but that are wrong!
Balotelli isn’t even looking, brilliant stamp (being pushed by modric and off balance, not intentional and stop watching it in picture format or slow-mo, it happened in real time) shame Scott Parker wasn’t stretchered off. Lescott’s clearly wasn’t intentional, however again a brilliant forearm to the face. It’s about time desicions went our way for once. Stop talking so much about us and concentrate on your own game (vs Arsenal), We’re creating our own history at present, whilst you keep looking into the past, as for spurs, we beat you, your 8 points behind and Harry’s going down!
All this buying the title. I so remember all the talk being you can have all the money in the world but you cant buy a trophy. Now that we have bought a TEAM everybody talking about buying trophies. Spurs fans name one homegrown player playing for the national team or better yet for your team. Spurs buy 3 to 4 players every summer. HATERS suspend who you want we will just put Mancini on as striker
by the way dermot gallacher (ex ref) on talksport just now said that lescott’s shouldn’t be reviewed as he was just one of many with arms up trying to win the ball (i.e. something and nothing). He also felt that Balotelli wouldn’t be charged as it was inconclusive (too many variables) to conclude intent. So he/ both might be charged but it is largely the red tinted media that is trying tio drum this up.
