FT Manchester United 2-3 Athletic Club

Starting XI:

De Gea – On current form he is arguably the best goalkeeper in the world. Produced one world class save after the other. 9

Rafael – Offered little going forward and was caught napping for the their third. 4

Smalling – Struggled to cope with the speed and movement of the Athletic attackers. 5

Evans – Probably the least poor performance from all of the outfield United players. 6

Evra – Provided an extra attacking outlet late on. 5

Park – Nonexistent. I only remembered he was playing after being taken off by Sir Alex. 3

Jones – Failed to track Llorente for the first. Sloppy with his passing and offered nothing going forward. 4

Giggs – Started off well but his legs struggled to keep up with such a fast-paced game. 4

Young – After such a promising display against Spurs on Sunday, it was a shame to see him play so poorly yet again. Expected much more from him. 4

Rooney – A few moments of class were surrounded by a sea of misplaced passes time and time again. 5

Hernandez – Lost the ball within moments after each time he received it. Failed to hold the ball up properly and was unable to link up with his strike partner. 4

Subs:

Carrick: Instilled some much needed steel in the middle of the pitch. 6

Anderson – Looked rusty but still looked to carry the ball forward when given the chance. 5

Nani – Wasn’t given enough time to have a major influence on the result. N/A
