It had to happen didn’t it? One thing was almost as certain as a disappointing result for England last night in the friendly against the Netherlands and that was that one of the Manchester United players featuring for the national side would get injured. The inevitable occurred in the second half as former United target Jan-Klaas Hunterlaar clashed with Chris Smalling on his way to heading the Dutch into a two goal lead.

Both players were left lying on the floor following the incident, Huntelaar with a mouth full of grass and Smalling more worryingly suffering a cut to his head.

The United defender was stretchered off and initial reports indicate that he didn’t lose consciousness but did require stitches in his head wound. With United facing Spurs at White Hart Lane this weekend, theres no doubt we can ill afford to lose one of our key defenders for such an important tie. Whether Smalling will be fit though remains to be seen, but you can see here from the video he’ll do well to recover from such a nasty blow within a few days.

Just what is it with United and injuries this season?!
