Demba Ba - even he was rumoured to be on his way to United once

Robin Van Persie looks increasingly less likely to be joining United with every passing day, in fact the more the whole saga drags on the more it seems that United’s interest seems to be just that ‘interest.’

The same way that I’m ‘interested’ in an Audi A3 or ‘interested’ in a job working for Sky Sports, yes, I’d love to have both of those things but know full well that neither is likely to happen any time soon. Each season United fans are treated to the latest ‘target’ being announced through either the player themselves, their club or their agent- or occasionally Sir Alex.

Rewind twelve months ago and it was Samir Nasri who was seemingly a target for United with even Sir Alex commenting:

“I don’t think he [Nasri]  is coming to United,”

“That is all I can tell you. I think that he has agreed to go somewhere else.”

Okay so Nasri had agreed to go somewhere else- Manchester City, at the time a club that had finished third in the league and lifted the FA Cup, while United had won the league and finished as runners-up in the Champions League. Yet money talks as we well know and the little Frenchman decided that it was better to get paid more money to win the league with City than less to win it with United.

Then there was the whole Wesley Sneijder saga which dominated every social network and media outlet known to man, in fact I’m pretty sure if you travelled to the remote caves of Papa New Guinea you’d find a picture of Wesley Sneijder with an arrow pointing to Old Trafford scrawled across the wall.

Sneijder himself noted of United’s interest: “I’ve just felt that it was close, yes.

“We have held several talks.

“Why they dropped out, I do not know exactly.”

I’ve been told off various ‘sources’ that United did actually get to the negotiating stage with Sneijder, although I’ve been told by others that an agreement with Inter wasn’t even reached regarding the transfer fee. Talk about confusing.

Now we’re at a similar stage regarding the pursuit of RVP.

Of Van Persie, last week Sir Alex stated:

“There are other clubs interested in the player. We’ve shown an interest and that’s where we’re at at the moment.”

Van Persie is obviously coveted by United, City and Juventus and all three clubs have a lot to offer the Dutchman, the question is who will stump up the wages and even the transfer fee that it requires to sign him? Personally I can’t see it being United, in fact only this morning there’s been talk of him actually staying at Arsenal.

Then there’s Leighton Baines of course, a player who according to many people on twitter or other various social networks was practically already  United’s new left back. Has a bid been lodged for the former Wigan man? No. So until it is forgive me if I prefer to work under the assumption that Baines won’t be coming to United this Summer.

Let’s not forget Lucas Moura, a teenager who only a few weeks ago was unheard of and is now one of the most talked about on the planet. Some of the quotes I’ve seen regarding this particular transfer are almost beyond belief. In the space of only a few hours you can read that he is definitely not coming to United, a bid’s been accepted by Sao Paolo, a bid’s been rejected by Sao Paolo, Internazionale are about to sign him and he’s told his mum he wants to come to Old Trafford.

The only thing I’m actually sure of when it comes to United transfers is that I actually know sod all and until I see an official club statement, I’ll carry on concentrating about the players we have got not the ones we haven’t.

Man utd are more likely to sign cinthia moura than Lucas moura,he’s just what seems to be becoming a list of players that man utd are linked with transfer window after transfer window that for one reason or another utd don’t get,if utd where really interested in the likes of moura, rvp you would think they would want to tie them up quickly to scupper any other club interest.Powell was signed up before the end of the season and Kagawa soon after,i think they were utds only targets, with the exception of possibly baines, who utd seem to be priced out of now.might just be me being cynical but I belive it’s just about getting interest in the ipo, selling tickets and merchandise knowadays and giving the impression that utd are competing in the market.get ready for the no value(yes because the club continually put up ticket, merchandise prices, sell a player for a record fee, then moan about value),happy with squad,we were looking at a few options schpeel.

This is exactly what I’ve been saying.
The last couple of summers, drop some big prices n names out to the media, feign an interest to try & push season tickets now that the once famed waiting list has disintegrated.
Fair enough, you will never sign everyone you go after, but with 1 hand tied behind your back by the Glazers debts, as soon as your interest becomes public you will be out priced.

Spot on!getting fed up of hearing this report+that report of this player+that player comming+and in the end, comes to nothing!
Have a feeling there wont be any more new signing comming in this summer+if we have another season like the last one, questions will be asked, why didnt we sign any of these names thats being branded about comming to o.t. and rightly so+surley fergy wont be able to defend the glazers.Have a feeling this season is going to be one of our most important in alog time!!anyone think the same??

A club trying to re-gain there top spot as the champions of england, signing only two players when rivals are signing more than two even up to five players, what do think will happen, been the richest club in world,we suppose to buy more players like any other team, today is modric tommorow is lucas, specified on the players you want to sign and act fast before any other team, united don’t want to be champion i guess.

    Well feckin’ said!

Fergie’s reputation is on the line here with him publicly naming players he is interested in signing. If no more players are signed, then it is true that Fergie has been sucking up to Glazers to promote the sales of tickets and IPO with ‘fake’ bids.

I want to see rvp, lucas and modric in oldtrafford this season… Sir alex try and do something.

  8. Al says:

Utd has no money to spend. Hope I’ll be proved wrong. Every summer same story. We make a silly bid which will be rejected and the players agent will beat a few drums. The player will attract a few interest. Utd gets the headlines.

There are lots of players out there if we want to boost the midfield. Marco Reus was available for only £10 millions. He was a revelation at the Euro’s. Mario Gotze will not even cost £25m. Matt Hummels can be a good addition. But we have no money.

Our scouts are rubbish. Why did they not spot Oscar before Chelsea? Well, they are in Brazil on holiday.

Finally, all due respect to Sir Alex. But I think it’s time to call it a day. Some of his tactics last season was deplorable.

I’ll play Carrick and Jones as defensive midfield players. Young (who I don’t rate), Valencia and Nani behind Rooney up front. The 3 aformentioned can rotate all day long which will confuse the opposing team’s defence. We played Scholes and Giggs in the same game. They haven’t got the legs anymore.

Plus in Europe, we were lucky to win the Champions league twice with Sir Alex. Tactically, he is not astute as other continental coaches. His assistants are a bunch of jokers in their shorts.

Can’t wait to see Guardiola in the dugout.

Bottom line….UTD is Skint. No money. ADMIT IT SIR ALEX.

If you retire, you won’t even receive a pension from Utd which keeps you going for as long as possible.

  9. I’ve got a theory on all of this… The Glazers are unfortunately the tw#ts that were allowed to put us in this position. As much as we hate them, they are astute business people. They know that they’ve had THE best manager in the world with Alex and in him someone who’s soul is engrained in the club and was long before they arrived. Ok we’ve hung on in the last 5 or 6 years with our transfer net spend probably one of the lowest around when you consider the exits. We’ve hung on as a top side but Alex is getting near the end. They’ve known he could keep us there for a few years but without him, the signings continue to elude us, we fade further back in Europe, then the league… The worm will turn & when it does, a few green and yellow scarfs will seem like nothing. They don’t care though as they’ll be gone. A new era will sweep in and sadly the legacy of sir Alex will be one that despite being an unbelievably successful one will be … It could’ve been so so much more. If we’d been able to sign just some of the worlds best from 6 or 7 years ago we would’ve built on the success and been right up there with Barca but instead those greedy Jewish gnomes have held Alex back. I feel a bit let down by him in that he’s covered up for them instead of sticking up for us and United. For me though and no doubt there’s reds oldr than me, I suffered the liverpoo years throughout the 70’s & 80’s & being a United fan should be more than the glory… Come what may we’re United and as the song says we never die. Our history remains and we will always be proud.

The other aspect is the Internet totally blowing transfer dealings out of all proportion. Every summer we’re linked with the world & his wife & it’s spread accross hundreds of sites where before we had a couple of papers. If we get nobody else so be it, Kagawa I believe will be major & who knows Powell could be too. You have to look deeper to get any idea of how Alex sees things & the development of others means this could be their year… Jones still very young, Cleverley hopefully clear of injury, Chico well rested but with a full pre season under his belt, Wellbeck another years experience & a world cup under his belt, Anderson knowing this is his final chance, our captain, ie man mountain & leader Vidic back, De Gea a season on & used to the prem now. In other words people…. Get some perspective.

  10. Andy says:

The sad truth is we cannot compete with Chelsea or city in the transfer Market and will now always end up with the bargain basement players forget modric van persie sneijder etc we have no chance of signing these type of stellar name players anymore even if we get moura it will not appease me a 19 year old unproven winger (exactly what we need *sarcastically said). I honestly believe that if we do not strengthen with some proven players we will struggle to finish 3rd this year behind Chelsea and city however in my opinion we will not be signing anyone with proven pedigree and therefore I think my prediction will become reality.

    • So why the hell would we struggle to finish 3rd when we would’ve won it but for 2 injury time goals by citeh??? We’ve added Kagawa who IS quality. Depressing ‘reds’ make me laugh. Would citeh have won the league you reckon if Kompany had been out for 2 thirds of the season? We lost Vidic very early along with numerous other injuries. It’s not the video game football manager mate get a grip.
