United’s shock new signing Dutch left back Alexander Buttner has completed his medical today according to reports.
The Mail notes:

Alexander Buttner has completed his medical ahead of sealing his £3.9million switch to Manchester United from Vitesse Arnhem.
The 23-year-old Dutchman left-back arrived at Bridgewater Hospital in Manchester at Monday lunchtime.

Buttner has yet to play for the full Dutch national side but was part of the provisional 32 man squad before Euro 2012.

With Fabio out on loan at Queen’s Park Rangers, Robbie Brady seemingly more of winger than a defender and Tyler Blackett too young to be thrown into the first team, United desperately needed cover for Patrice Evra.

Although the signing of a fairly unknown player, at least to many Reds, is hardly likely to get the Old Trafford faithful buzzing with excitement, addressing the question of left back cover is a step in the right direction for a pre-season which has been a very busy one for Sir Alex.

It goes without saying Buttner will not be able to take part in tonight’s game at Goodison Park- but I’ll say it anyway.
Who knows with Rio Ferdinand, Jonny Evans, Chris Smalling and Phil Jones all injured, maybe Evra could be moved to centre back and Buttner used at left back for Saturday’s game against Fulham?

It’s just a matter of time before he replaces evra as our left back.. Evra has definitely gone far his best and now the first half against everton really shows it.. A cheaper jordi alba welcomed.

When will Fergy realise that Scholes passes only sideways and backwards 90 percent of the time. And by the time he does pass, the defence is too organised. Do us all a favour and retire gracefully Paul
