Rio- should be back to face Norwich

A good day at the office on Sunday afternoon saw United complete the double of old foes Liverpool, as well as take a 10 point lead at the top of the Premier League… if only for a few hours.

I am sure I am not alone when I saw how confident and at ease I feel when I see Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic line up next to each other.

I appreciate Jonny Evans is a fans favourite and fully agree that he has improved dramatically over the past two seasons; however to put it simply, he will never be in the same class bracket at the first choice pairing. Cue the hate mail from the Twitter brigade.

United completely dominated the first half, with Liverpool lucky to keep the score at 1-0.

The second half started in the same manner with Vidic deflecting in an Evra header. At this stage it looked like it would go on to be three or four, however against the run of play, Liverpool replied instantly and the mood went from comfortable to tense for the final 30 minutes.

Rafael and Evra again demonstrated their value going forward, adding width to the game and good attacking options – but most impressively they stood firm at the back, supporting the central defenders.

In a season in which United have conceded far too many goal, it is great to see both Ferdinand and Vidic in fine form at the weekend.

Their first half display was faultless – Suarez didn’t get a sniff.

Their second half display was much tougher, and they dealt with the pressure in the world class way we have missed this season.

Rio Ferdinand just edges the vote as he finished the full 90 minutes.
