“Please god no!!”

You wake up covered in sweat, the duvet stuck to you as you struggle for breath, your heart almost bursting out of your chest as it beats furiously. You jump out of bed rush to your laptop and google the following ” Cristiano Ronaldo Manchester City” phew, it’s all a nightmare, your beloved hero, the man that brought you three Premier League titles, an FA Cup, not to mention the Champions League – and a couple of League Cups- has not signed for you bitter rivals. Or has he?

The idea of Cristiano Ronaldo joining Manchester City seems so abhorrent to all Reds that it’s not even worth considering for the fear of actually making us feel sick, but could there be any chance of such a disgusting deal actually becoming a reality?

The Metro – hardly the most reliable source I’ll concede-  notes :

Manchester City will save the cash they received from the sale of Mario Balotelli in order to fund the marquee summer signing of either Cristiano Ronaldo or Radamel Falcao.

The Blues pocketed around £20million from AC Milan for the striker, but manager Roberto Mancini was unable to replace his countryman before the close of the transfer window.

City are one of the two clubs in the world – along with PSG – who could afford Ronaldo, and Real may be tempted to cash in on the Portuguese forward rather than extending his reported £9million-a-year contract.

The capture of Ronaldo would rocket City’s worldwide profile, but the 27-year-old may have reservations about joining the Blues having spent six years at Manchester United.

At first glance this looks like complete codswallop but you have to wonder whether should City finish the season empty-handed they’d go all out buy the one player they could get who almost would guarantee some silverware next season. The big question is not whether City could afford him but would Ronaldo really do that to United fans? I seriously doubt it, although I suppose Barcelona fans thought that about Luis Figo…..

City fan here – I don’t think he would come to us and I am not convinced we would go for him because of the finances involved. Yes we are rich, but the last two windows have shown we either cannot or won’t spend silly money as has been done previously. Might be proved wrong of course.

Teh full story was in the Times on Sunday, they plan a major revamp this summer. ALL it says is City have been offered the chance to bid for CR7 by his agent and Real Madrid, not that they WILL bid for him. By the sounds of it they plan to sign more fast and clinical players next season and have put Dzeko/Tevez/Nasri/others on the transfer list but CR7 is just one of the names mentioned who they could sign along with Falcoa, Cavani, Fernandinho, Isco and Jovetic. So I wouldnt lose too much sleep yet.

No, I don’t think he will repay Sir Alex like that.

Don’t get me wrong. I love Wayne Rooney. He is a very good player with a great attitude. But is he consistent enough to be considered truly world class? On the other hand Ronaldo is. If we were prepared to part ex Ronaldo for Rooney plus cash I am sure we could do a deal and stop the nightmare happening.
