Already over the past few weeks, we’ve been seriously linked with- deep breath- Kevin Strootman, Ezequiel Garay, Gareth Bale, Cristiano Ronaldo, Marouanne Fellaini, Stefan Jovetic, Thiago Alcantara and Leighton Baines – apologies if I’ve missed anyone out. Now obviously United aren’t really chasing all of those players, it would be absurd, but who are we going after and how realistic are they as a potential signing?
David Moyes recently noted that United have given him a limitless budget which begs the question why is our only real activity been going after a 28 year-old left back? Of course one could argue that we may have several deals in the pipeline, it is only early after all, but there seems to be a lot of confusion regarding what players United want and what we’re doing to get them. This became evident with the all to avoidable saga regarding Thiago Alcantara.
Thiago was practically on his way to Old Trafford according to almost every source on the planet, that was until Pep Guardiola announced he wanted to take the youngster to the Allianz Arena, not only that but he wasn’t interested in anyone else.
Why United didn’t know that Bayern were interested in Thiago baffles me a little especially as Guardiola is thought to have a good relationship with Sir Alex, surely a quick phone call could have shed light on the situation for us and avoided a lot of heartache.
Guardiola was clear in what he was doing, who he wanted, how obtainable they were and even seemingly what system he’s looking to play to accommodate them- rumour has it that Javi Martinez could be moved to centre back, not something I agree with but that’s another story.
It would be harsh to claim this is Moyes’ fault as we’ve even seen this uncertainty over transfers under Sir Alex with players like Lucas Moura and Wesley Sneijder seemingly failing to sign at the very last moment. I’m not saying United shouldn’t keep their options open, but remember the good old days of 2007 when we wanted Nani, Anderson and Owen Hargreaves and went out and got them, or even more recently in 2011, with Phil Jones, Ashley Young and David De Gea.
United are becoming a bit embarrassing in the transfer market and if it wasn’t for RVP last season we’d have failed practically every time we went up against a rival for a player. Now might be the time for United to focus on one player, work out a deal that will bring him here, find out if he’s willing and then go all out for him, rather than spread ourselves thin.
It’s NOT Moyes falut, but it’s the Man.United Borad’s Falut to appoint Moyes as the new Man.United Boss really.
Moyes is a good manager and could be one of the great in the future. However at the moment he is not good enough to become SAF successor. United cannot wait 4-5 years winning nothing. Moyes spend more than 10 years at Everton and end up by winning nothing (Not even 1 single League Cup). Yes,.. he has a great loyality with the club to stay there for more than 10 years, but ot’s no use to stay long and winning nothing really.
Moyes name’s cannot motivate TOP CLASS players. Unlike Guardiola, Mourinho, Hiddink, or even Capello, …. Moyes has never won any trophies. That’s why Thiago has chosen Bayern over us. It’s Not between Bayern and United. It’s between Guardiola and Moyes and sadly it will be the same result if it applies to any other big name players.
United are getting backwards. Apart from Moyes is not good enough to replace SAF, all backroom staffs’s quality are poorer. P.Neville and Giggs all have NO experience. Moyes should in fact bring people like Solskjaer to become his assistant (Not P.Neville really). There is no quality in the backroom staffs. The manager is not good enough. And we cannot sign a real Top Class players. It’s will be very easy to predict the outcome of this season really.
You spoke well my guy, united need an experience caoch like’es of name’s you’v mentions, but let’s all give him a chance, may be he can prove him self, one love united family
In the past recent years, all potential young players are not willing to join ManUtd. One reason is that they found ManUtd players are not in class comparing with other teams such as Barca, Real, Bayern and even Chelsea. Young players would like to play with top world class players and want to learn something from them so that it could be beneficial for their future growth.
Besides, ManUtd scouting history was terrible because they are not willing to pay higher budget to recruit a player even he has so much of potential. They would prefer cheaper young players and “hopefully” some of them will become top players in the future. Unfortunately, they could do much on them as you can see.
Their only classy players are fading. Scholes is retired, Giggs will do the same any moment, Rooney’s top form is gone, RVP is getting old and not sure he can keep his top scoring.
Moyes is gonna be having lots of challenge because he doesn’t have too many good chips holding in his hands. God bless him.
This is exactly true, and every body on this earth is watching them and I believe no single united fan is happy with what was going on as far this kind of transfer policy is concern. Some thing has to be done.
God will purnish man utd magt, i hate our policy of tracking players. we have to be serious, bcos our rivals are now more than prepared to challenge us.
d question is clear, who is in charge of transfer at man u.d entire group must excuse d club as a matter of augency.it’s obvious they dont knw their duties thereby constituting nuisance 2 d club.again,i hope moyes knows what he’s doing.
Good point! Indeed, it is more than an embarrasment!
Spread whose selves thin? It’s u reporters who spread urselves thin. Now, I don’t know why man utd is ‘reportedly’ in deep negotiations with any player a reporter wants man utd to buy.
We claim we have the money to buy. We keep on losing our targets. Our Rivals they don’t need a scouting team. They rely on us completely. Ozil, Benzema, Di Maria,Isco, Arfa, Martinez – It was we who identified as our targets but others act quickly than us. We our taking our Club’s legacy status for granted, thinking players will come for us stop dreaming. Sir Alex Chapter is over. We are now just as Arsenal and nothing more than that. Two days it took for Bayern to sign a player and we keep on discussing and chatting among others. It is high time to for us to wake up.Baines is a waste at the age of 28. we should go Contrao.
Moyes stop thinking of our legacy create your own one.
Thanks!
i cant blame Guirdiola, but ferguson for instance, he has shown alot of unfairness to Guirdiola, as a player and again as a coach, right now we are talking Guiordiola could be our manager as a united fan. and i say again guirdiola is the only coach who was destined to succeed united but Ferguson denied him the opportunity. i hate ferguson.
I accept I’m not the most patient person, but it is becoming a little concerning.
Talk of unlimited budgets clashes with Woodwards words of we only need to spend 20m.
Pessimisticly, the talk of deals going on the background, im expecting an updated excuse for NO VALUE IN THE MARKET come the end of September. Not that its his fault, & he’s definitely his own man, but besides the Glazers penny-pinching I feel the loss of the Fergie market could hit us as well.
Can we all say hand-on-heart, that if Fergie left last summer, that with city as champions & no Fergie that RVP would definitely have joined us?
Some seem happy contenting themselves with Thiago wasn’t good enough for Barca, so why is he good enough for us.
Barca have/had 4 top draw centre midfielders.
We have 1.
