Would we have loved him?

The thought of Luis Suarez gracing the Old Trafford turf with his anger-inducing presence later today is enough to make most Reds, well, a bit angry obviously.

It could’ve been very different for United fans and Suarez though as rather than the boos he’ll no doubt rightfully receive when he makes his appearance for Liverpool later, the Uruguayan was once wanted by Sir Alex- allegedly of course.

Four years ago the Mail- hardly the last bastion of reliable football stories I’ll admit- noted:

Manchester United are chasing Ajax’s prolific striker Luis Suarez to fill the gaping hole left by Cristiano Ronaldo and Carlos Tevez.

Sir Alex Ferguson has kept a watchful eye on the 22-year-old, who has scored an impressive 54 goals in 75 league appearances for the Amsterdam club.

Manchester City, Inter Milan and AC Milan are all tracking £35m-rated Suarez who has suggested he is open to staying in the Dutch capital.

Now the Mail has in the past suggested that the likes of Wesley Sneijder and Lucas Moura weren’t just United targets but had actually agreed a deal with the club so we know the flaws in their reporting, but it’s very interesting to think that the possibility is actually there that Suarez was considered as a signing.
