The Everton Left Back Could Be On His Way To Old Trafford David Moyes pursuit of Leighton Baines could finally reach an end in January with the Sunday Express reporting that the United boss is set to launch a £15 million bid in January that could be enough to tempt the Toffees.

Baines will be 29 years old by the time the January transfer window comes around and with Everton always somewhat pressed for cash, there’s every chance a bid of such a size would be enough to tempt them. Patrice Evra is obviously nearing the end of his career and despite suggestions he wanted to move at the end of the season, he’s been quick to say it’s a misunderstanding and he’s happy to stay.

The most confusing aspect of United’s pursuit of Baines is that at 29, he hardly represents a much longer term option and could in fact be something of a step down from Evra, who has lots of Champions League experience, is a popular figure in the dressing room and one of the club’s greatest ever full backs.

Moyes has already had is fingers burnt somewhat with the signing of Marouane Fellaini after he ended up paying more than the Belgian’s buy-out clause due to leaving it till the last minute. Returning to his old club to spend a lot of money on a player who may not improve the starting XI is a gamble by the new manager. Baines is a decent defender going forward but can be found wanting in defence at times, even more so than his French counterpart.

I like Baines, he’ll be a great addition, but I would rather prefer that manchester united goes for Fabio Coentrao… or else save money and give our own Fabio a go.

Are you for real? Check Baines stats defensively and offensively and he is consistently one of the best defenders in the PL. Yet another ill informed article from blinkered Utd fans who know nothing of football outside their mid-table club.

A real taste of bitterness there Mandy . A few of us know a little about football ,Baines is a good defender .My only qualm is his age, that’s only with a view to the future . Anyway from our mid table position us numpties wish you well , keep looking over your shoulder like yesterday its the United way .

I’m a United fan and I thought the same thing, we’re not all “blinkered” love

If he’s not worth buying because of his age, that’s fine. Funny how your manager has a different view though and continues his non-stop pursuit of this elderly not very good at defending Left Back.

Anyone who has watched him regularly knows his value. There is no better LB in the PL and his goals / assists ratio only increases his value. Oh, and please, don’t compare Luke Shaw with him. That’s just embarrassing.

Are YOU for real Mandy? I’d quit the generalising if i were you, i too thought the same as you even before reading your comments. Dont know why you have to be so bitter about things – grow up.

To me, i think by december Baine will turn to 29yrs, why not look for yong left back with a litle cash istead of wast money on baine agin and moreover evra is still perrforming well

  4. dax says:

Baines is a good Player but at 29 this is not the correct way to build for the future.
This would only result as a quick fix.

We need baines to play alongside wt evra in dat left side of d field instead of using dos right footed player in d left side, here is a natural left footed man who can run and make gd across also cover for each other wen needed. leave kagawa a fantastic central mildfielder to his position to partner wt carrick, let’s think about it.

it dosent make any sense. In two years from now he’ll be in same shoes as Evra’s, so why waste money and time. There are lots of potential left back in England or better still Europe. Why not go for one. Blend him with time, Evra is still good to go after all. You allake up and open eyes. Why has everton not given baines a new contract to fend him off united interest??? They want ro make money off him.
