Will Welbeck get the nod today?

After the euphoria of Wednesday night’s win over Olmypiakos in the Champions League, which has been subdued somewhat with the news that Bayern Munich await us in the next round, it’s back to the depression of the league.

The 3-0 loss to Liverpool at Old Trafford last Sunday isn’t going to be forgotten in a hurry but at least a win today at Upton Park could go some way to restoring a bit of pride at United. The battle for fourth place is all but over for United and it’s now time to see which players are up willing to fight for the club game by game and perhaps earn themselves a starting place against Bayern Munich.

The bad news is last season’s top scorer Robin Van Persie is out for four to six weeks, the good news is Danny Welbeck, was superb against Olympiakos and should’ve done enough to earn his start. With Patrice Evra suspended for the Bayern Munich first leg, it’s time to give Alexander Buttner some games to prepare himself.

Here’s my predicted line up:

4-2-3-1: David De Gea, Rafael, Phil Jones, Jonny Evans, Alexander Buttner, Marouane Fellaini, Darren Fletcher, Danny Welbeck, Juan Mata, Nani, Wayne Rooney.

I am hoping Moyes uses Mata as a central midfielder and asks him to slot into the role Giggs played on Wednesday. If Giggs can play so well in the middle, and Scholes did for years and couldn’t tackle, then I believe Mata can be successful there.

The role will suit him better because he will be central and in the thick of the action. Mata has a lot of great qualities like Scholes, but pace isn’t one of them. We are hurting him and the team by using him on the right like some winger.

Long-term we can get a powerful midfielder like William Carvalho and use him next to Mata in midfield. Carvalho is a defensive midfielder which would benefit Mata. We can then add pace in the team by getting a new winger on the right.

I dont like these because its not attacking game 4-5-1 will be better because if Rooney will be kept at lone forword it will be better to attacking from midfield

Moyes should use Nani and Valencia in his wing and pair Cleverley with Carrick .
