set to be assistant. Louis Van Gaal has taken the first steps to ingratiating himself with United fans by giving the green light for to become his assistant manager.

According to reports, who’s set to be announced as the new United boss later today will make the Welshman his second-in-command a move that will hopefully help the transition from the days of to the new regime, a lot less fraught than they were under David Moyes.

The Guardian notes:

Ryan Giggs is set to accept the No2 position at United after being offered the role by Louis van Gaal following discussions at the Dutchman’s house in his home town, Noordwijk.

The main problem of course is whether Van Gaal will marginalise Giggs the way that Moyes was reported to have or if he’ll allow the Red the chance to have a real input into team affairs. There’s every chance that if Van Gaal can manage the side for the next two or three years with Giggs learning from him, then United could have the managerial positions sorted for some time to come.
