Could the former Ajax man be used in a better role at United?

There was very little that could be garnered from United’s recent FA Cup win over Derby County that we didn’t already know. Wayne Rooney can score against lesser opposition, Anthony Martial is amazing and United fans are still the noisiest in the land.

The one thing that was perhaps not known before the game but seems to becoming a more popular idea now, is that of Daley Blind playing in a midfield role. The Dutchman has featured almost exclusively in defence since he arrived at United, yet his lack of height and pace are often badly exposed. During his time at Ajax, Blind was named Dutch footballer of the year while playing as a defensive midfielder and it’s a role he could fill at United.

The Reds may have several options in the defensive midfield role but with injuries and in some cases age taking its toll their could be room for one more. Blind alongside any of Bastian Schweinsteiger, Morgan Schneiderlin or Michael Carrick could be the perfect foil and let’s face it anything’s got to be better than Marouane Fellaini.

If Phil Jones or Marcos Rojo are available then they could line up alongside Chris Smalling in defence freeing Blind to use his passing ability and occasional eye for goal in a midfield role that suits everyone.

sadly watching united now is like watching paint dry boring and predictable.when fergie left united it was always going to be a hard act to follow, given the age and fitness of key players. The subsequent rebuilding has been a joke players who were never given a decent chance sold and replaced with expensive flops.
