Respected journalist tweets Manchester, Mkhitaryan is almost done

United are are on the brink of signing Borussia Dortmund’s midfield star Henrikh Mkhitaryan according to the latest reports.

Raphael Honigstein is the Guardian’s German football correspondent and is well respected, he tweeted that a deal was almost complete.

The Armenian has reportedly been a target for the Reds over the past few weeks and now a deal is ready to be done between the two clubs.

Sky Sports notes:

Manchester United are close to completing the signing of Henrikh Mkhitaryan from Borussia Dortmund after talks reached an advanced stage on Sunday, according to Sky sources.

The 27-year-old Armenia midfielder has been regularly linked with United recently and new boss Jose Mourinho appears set to land his man.

Mkhitaryan has a year left on his Dortmund deal but is set to move to the Premier League rather than sign a new contract.

The signing of Mkhitaryan would be a huge addition to Jose Mourinho’s squad and it’s unlikely the Reds summer spending will stop there. Zlatan Ibrahimovic is still thought to be a done deal, while there’s talk of Paul Pogba being on United’s radar, not to mention at least one defender, perhaps Chelsea’s Cesar Azpilicueta, to help prepare the Reds for a title challenge next season.
