Bale’s been linked with a move to Old Trafford.

United could yet pull off the biggest transfer deal of the summer with reports suggesting Gareth Bale could be heading to Old Trafford.

Reports in Spain indicate United could land Bale thanks to Madrid’s pursuit of Kylian Mbappe in a £161 million deal from Monaco, paving the way for the Wales international to leave.

The Metro notes:

Real Madrid are ready to push Gareth Bale to leave the club and join Manchester United as they try to raise the necessary funds to sign Kylian Mbappe.

Reports emerged in Spain on Tuesday that Real had agreed a record £161 million deal with Monaco to sign the teenager and will offer him a basic salary of £120,000-a-week.

But despite raking in around £80m from the sales of Alvaro Morata and Danilo to Chelsea and Manchester City respectively, they still need to offload another player after only managing to get a loan fee for James Rodriguez.

Bale is one of the biggest stars on the planet and would represent a major coup for United and Jose Mourinho as the Reds look to build on last season’s trophy winning campaign by challenging for the league title.

The thought of Bale coming to United has excited a lot of Reds, although naturally there’s a lot of scepticism as to whether such a deal is just paper talk or could actually happen.

Reds have taken to social media to discuss the prospect of Bale coming to Old Trafford:
