Manchester United’s summer spending spree looks set to continue with the club on the verge of signing Internationale winger Ivan Perisic according to the latest reports.
The Independent notes:
“The 28-year-old has already agreed personal terms with the Old Trafford club but Inter have so far proved unmoving on their star player’s asking price.
“Manchester United are still a few million short of Internazionale’s asking price for Croatian winger Ivan Perisic, but those close to the deal expect it to be completed for a fee of around £45m to £50m over the next week.”
Jose Mourinho probably won’t be too surprised one of his former clubs are playing hardball over his attempts to sign their star player.
Match-winning wingers are in short supply and United aren’t exactly known for being skint when it comes to spending money on their transfers. The club have just forked out £75 million – and rising- on Romelu Lukaku while last summer saw United spend just shy of £90 million on Paul Pogba – Inter are holding out for a reason and looking at it objectively it’s hard to blame them.
United can also hope to recoup some of the money for Perisic in shirt sales, as the fans are known to spend a lot on replica shirts featuring the names of new players, there’s been a boom in t-shirt printing in Manchester when it comes the Reds’ big money stars.
Perisic is hitting his peak and there’s little doubt that if United did decide enough was enough and they weren’t going to match Inter’s demands, the former Wolfsburg player would be a pivotal part of Luicano Spalletti’s team next season.
United fans have been giving their reaction to Perisic’s propose move to Old Trafford:
Perisic + Sanchez are both 28 yet seeing people saying they’d never pay that £ for Perisic he is ‘too old’ but they’d pay more for Sanchez.

If Perisic was younger then yes that amount would be okay coz he would have room to grow and be like Sanchez but at his age he can’t

People aren’t keen on Perisic because he doesn’t represent potential. What he is now is as good as it gets. That’s why £55M is a lot

Fans need to have the same mindset for Perisic like they had for Mkhi. If you have watched only YouTube videos, it’s not the club’s fault.

Honestly hope we don’t sign Perisic. We’re getting rinsed. £48M for a guy who could possible have 2-3 years left in him at best.

if united does get perisic and a pricey midfielder and wins the league, how much will people talk about the amount of cash spent? #mufc
