Both countries are looking to join Spain in the Euro 2012 final after they beat Portugal on penalties last night in the Donbass Arena. While Germany have been installed as pre-match favourites, Italy know how to win in tournament football and will be tough to beat.

Joachim Low’s Germany have breezed through the tournament thus far, completing victories over Portugal, The Netherlands and Denmark in the group stages to top Group B, before easing their way past Greece 4-2 in the quarter finals.

Their front line of Mario Gomez, Thomas Muller and Lukas Podolski is one to be feared, and with Mesut Ozil and Bastian Schweinsteiger providing the ammunition, Germany will pose a major threat to the Italians’ back-line.

As for Italy, they have played in their traditional manner, keeping it tight at the back and nicking the odd goal. Draws with Spain and Croatia in the group stages before a victory over the Republic of Ireland saw them progress from Group C.

Italy then dominated their quarter final with England, but needed penalties to secure victory. Midfielder Andrea Pirlo showed his class in that game and he will need to be at his influential best to give Italy a foothold in the match against Germany.

It should be an intriguing encounter and you can catch all the action here and get involved in our Germany v Italy LIVE BLOG below…
