United’s trip to the Emirates was once the stuff of title deciders, or at least two of the top four sides vying for vital points as they pushed for the top spot. Now things are slightly different as the two former Premier League heavyweights resemble something of a punch drunk boxer staggering from one decent result to a disappointing one with the consistency of a latter day Oliver McCall. United have shown signs of improvement under Louis Van Gaal recently with solid performances against the new title VIP’s City and Chelsea even if the brace of games only saw one point on the board.

Arsenal meanwhile have made even United’s defence look positively stingy and while Alexis Sanchez and a certain Mancunian have been giving the Gunners a sharp attacking edge, their back line is more generous than a drunken Santa. Unlike United though, Arsenal have some players who are available for selection in defence, while the Reds are struggling to find anything resembling a back four.

Despite an injured finger playing for Spain, David De Gea should be fit to face the Gunners, which is perhaps the only good news ahead of the game.

Here’s how United could line up today:

[4-3-2-1] David De Gea, Tony Valencia, Chris Smalling, Tyler Blackett, Luke Shaw, Ander Herrera, Marouane Fellaini, Angel Di Maria, Juan Mata,  Wayne Rooney, Robin Van Persie.

Do you agree?

Degea, Luke Shaw, Chris Smalling, Patrick McNair, TomThorpe.Michael Carrick, Fellaini, Herrera, Dimaria, Mata and Rooney. RVP and Januzai should be on the bench.Herrera should play behind Rooney while Dimaria and Mata as wingers. We saw what Mata did wen he came up against Crystal Palace from the wing replacing Januzai. His contribution is better than that of Januzai and RVP. Valencia is not a natural defender it’s time Van Gal gives Tom Thorpe his chance. He’s a natural defender. A captain of the under 21 Man United team. We are complaining of defenders wen we have them in the academy. Gibbs in arsenal came from the academy. McNair is doing better than our senior defenders. Evans is even the most disappointing defender. Watch him against Mkdons in Capital one cup.

    My guess is this: 4-1-2-1-2
    . De Gea
    . Valencia Smalling Mcnair Shaw
    . Carrick/Fletcher
    . Herrera Fellaini/Mata
    . Di Maria
    . Rooney RVP/Wilson

This is the most feasible. Let Arsenal have possession. Then fiercely counter-attack them and let them have it. If, IF. We are winning 2-0, we have to play 4-3-1-2 with Herrera and Fellaini/Mata moving deeper in, and the 3 attackers supporting the back, so we are playing defensively parking the bus. As a team. And we keep countering them. LET THEM HAVE IT LADS!!
