Sir Alex Ferguson told the media that Rio Ferdinand may be out of the rest of the season in a press conference this morning.
Speaking of United’s mounting injury crisis before the Bolton game Ferguson that despite good news with Owen Hargreaves back in training there were still a lot of concerns.
Ferguson said: “It’s all just fallen apart in the week or so with the defenders getting injuries they’ve got.”
“”Rio’s obviously been out for a few weeks anyway…it looks to me as though we’ll be lucky to get him back for some part of the season. “
“Sometimes calf injuries can be troublesome, I remember Bryan Robson he was out for four months with a calf injury.
“It’s looking that way again with Rio.
“The bonus of having Wes Brown who can play right back or centre back is a big plus for us.”
Ferdinand has been immense for United this season, when he has played, and the loss of such a top defender could be a a massive blow as The Reds are still in the hunt for The Treble.
The surprising ease with which Chris Smalling has settled into the team will come as a boost for Ferguson.
