Manchester City skipper Vincent Kompany has admitted that Robin Van Persie’s decision to choose Old Trafford over the Etihad but still believes there’s everything to play for in the title race.
United hold a nine point lead over ‘noisy neighbours’ Manchester City but as last season showed gaps can be overhauled if teams aren’t careful and Kompany hasn’t given up on catching the Reds.
Speaking to the Mail, the defender noted:
‘There a lot of games coming, especially for United who are still in the Champions League. That may give us an opportunity. The reality, though, is that if they carry on like this they will be difficult to stop. I don’t believe in luck, not over a season.
‘United do things well and if they do it this time then it’s because they can and all credit to them. But we have attributes that give me hope and help me to keep calm. We are very calm.’
With City struggling for goals at times Robin Van Persie’s decision to join the Reds seems to have tipped the balance of power back into the Red half of Manchester’s favour.
Kompany said of the Dutch striker joining Sir Alex’s side:
‘United hit the jackpot with Van Persie,’
