The end of the saga?

The end of the saga?

It seems amazing that the departure of the last remaining striker of the double-winning triumvirate should be met with such indifference by United fans, but Wayne Rooney has done his utmost to ensure the Red glow has all but burnt out.

United fans are by and large fed up of the Rooney saga, which started with footsie across the City and ended most recently with a departing shot from the beloved Sir Alex. A player who’s scored so many goals and enjoyed so much success at any club would normally be adored but Rooney’s actions, plus the juxtaposition in attitude of players such as Robin Van Persie and Danny Welbeck mean the Scouser is barely ‘liked’ let alone loved by many Reds.

The latest reports indicate that Rooney who had denied asking to leave the club, may be about to commit his future to United. The Guardian notes:

Wayne Rooney will tell David Moyes that he wants a fresh start at Manchester United when he holds his first serious discussions with the new manager this week.

Moyes left for his summer break intending to keep the striker at Old Trafford so there is hope on both sides that Rooney’s future can be settled and talks can then move on to a fresh deal.

Keeping Rooney should by rights be a priority for the new manager but considering this whole mess seems to have emerged from the striker being subbed due to poor performances, most fans won’t lose too much sleep if the former Everton boss tells the former Everton striker his future lies elsewhere.
