The Times notes: Chelsea are planning to delay a second bid for Wayne Rooney until after his appearance next week in Rio Ferdinand’s testimonial in the hope that a hostile reaction from Manchester United’s fans could hasten the forward’s departure from Old Trafford.
Rooney has been concerned about a backlash from supporters since Sir Alex Ferguson claimed the England striker had asked to leave the club in May, which led to him being booed by a small section of United fans after their final home match of last season against Swansea City.
United fans are likely to be split over Rooney when it comes to our reactions, some may choose to boo him as they have in the past during his contract sagas while others refuse to boo any players while they’re still at the club. The question is would a hostile crowd convince Moyes he should sell the striker? Hopefully not as strengthening Chelsea at our expense could prove to be disastrous.
