Manchester United are set to battle AC Milan and Real Madrid for the signature of PSV Eindhoven attacker Cody Gakpo according to the latest reports.

The in-form Dutch star has found the net in the Eredivisie nine times in ten games as PSV have won eight and now sit second in the table behind Ajax.

The Manchester Evening News reports:

“A name that has been repeatedly linked is PSV Eindhoven star Gakpo, who was seen as a potential alternative to Antony for United before the Brazilian was finally signed from Ajax. The versatile forward has had a good start to the season in the Netherlands and has already hit double figures in goals and assists, one of the few players in Europe to do so.

Reports continue to link United with a move for the 23-year-old in January but according to Fichajes Italian giants Milan are also interested as well as Real Madrid.”

There’s no denying Manchester United need extra fire power, with Cristiano Ronaldo now 37 years-old, Anthony Martial constantly injured and Marcus Rashford still struggling for consistency. Whether the board will sanction the move for Gakpo remains to be seen but if United are able to get a deal done next summer then he could be the answer to the Reds lack of goals.

It won’t be easy to get Gakpo’s signature though with Real Madrid and AC Milan both chasing him, it could take some persuading from Erik Ten Hag to convince the attacker his best future lies at Old Trafford.
