Lisandro Martinez’s injury could not be as serious as first feared according to a leading expert who analyses sport injuries. Brian Sutterer who’s a doctor says after looking at the nature of the defender’s injury in the West Ham game, he believes the Argentinean international may only be out for 1-2 weeks.

“If somebody has a grade one stretch that’s probably going to be the order of 1-3 weeks.”

Whilst analysing the nature of Martinez’s injury and how he picked up as he tangled with West Ham’s Vladimir Coufal, Sutterer indicated it seemed less likely the United defender had a serious, long term injury.

The doctor was quick to stress though it’s impossible to know fully the extent of the injury without a full examination.

After the West Ham game, Erik ten Hag:

“I can’t say but it doesn’t look good. There is a bad concern.

“We have to wait for a few days for the diagnosis. We do everything to get the right diagnosis and see what is the damage.”

Martinez has struggled with injury over the past 10 months since the Europa League game against Sevilla last season and was soon on the treatment table again not long after returning to the United side at the beginning of this campaign.
