You’ve gotta admire those chaps at the biggest club in Stockport’s website, it’s pretty difficult to put a positive spin on a 6-1 defeat to your local rivals, but that’s just what they’ve managed to do.
Following United’s recent 6-1 under-18’s win, our ‘noisy neighbours’ were not about to let the scoreline get in the way of a good bit of spin.
Straight out of the Mike Summerbee school of journalism. City’s official website proclaims: “The Blues dominated the opening fifteen minutes but could not capitalise.” It all sounds very familiar doesn’t it? The site then goes on to comment on ” the even nature of first-half possession.” That’s the same first half that saw United go into a 3-0 lead [described as ‘undeserved’ on the site].
It’s no wonder City fans were quick to jump to Summerbee’s defence after his derby day post-match horror show, it seems it’s a trait that’s prevalent throughout the club- never mind the results just focus on the positives- or invent some.
Here’s the goals from the game which saw United’s Larnell Cole grab a hat-trick.
