Mourinho sent off

Is Jose too 'special' for United?

During my time on various social networks, forums and blogs I’ve witnessed many statements which have left me astounded and despairing in equal measure.

Just this season I’ve seen comments such as ‘Fergie’s got to go’ – following the 2-2 draw with WBA, ‘Carrick’s’ sh*t’- following any game United didn’t win and even some we did and ‘without buying’ -delete where appropriate- Ozil, Van Der Vaart, Sneijder United will win fook all.

There’s been many ridiculous suggestions during the last eight months, but it seems after the Real Madrid Barcelona game the internet was awash with numerous amateur pundits venting their anger at The Special One and how he was not only overrated as a coach but also found wanting as a person for his actions both during and after the game.

Mourinho seemed to go from the first choice of many United fans as Sir Alex Ferguson’s successor to all of sudden no longer good or dignified enough to manage the world’s greatest football club.

For those who didn’t see the game, which despite having one of the best ever Champions League goals was actually a major disappointment full of diving rolling around and more than a touch of ‘handbags’ Mourinho was sent to the stands after Pepe received a rather soft red card.

The Real boss’s crime had been to applaud the referee’s decision a little too lengthily and with obvious sarcasm to the fourth official.

It was after the game that the Special One let fly with the sort of rant Rafa Benitez would’ve been proud of. Mourinho said:

“It’s clear that against Barcelona you have no chance, I don’t know if it’s the publicity of Unicef [the club’s shirt sponsor], I don’t know if it’s because they are very nice, but they’ve got this power.

“I don’t know if it’s the friendship of [Spanish football federation president Angel Maria] Villar at Uefa, where he is vice-president.”

“I hope that one day [Barca coach Pep Guardiola] will win a clean Champions League, with no incidents behind it,” -obviously a reference to the game at Stamford Bridge two years ago, where Chelsea were denied what seemed like two stonewall penalties.

UEFA have announced there will be a disciplinary case against Mourinho while Barcelona have also lodged an official complaint.

A Barcelona spokesman said:

“We are going to present a case to Uefa’s Control and Disciplinary committee against Mr Mourinho for breaking Uefa’s disciplinary code.

“It’s unacceptable that anyone can question our titles or our link with UNICEF.

“It isn’t our intention to fan the flames but to put them out, because we believe coaches should only talk about footballing matters and not things which could incite violence.”

While Mourinho’s outburst was a little over the top, I can’t help but feeling a little bit of sympathy for him.

Yes, his side were outclassed by one of the game’s greatest ever players and a bigger man should’ve been able to simply hold his hands up and admit the best team won.

However it’s not quite the disgraceful diatribe some have claimed, for starters as soon as Pepe was sent off Real Madrid’s chances were all but ended and in all honesty the red card was extremely harsh.

Secondly some of the Barcelona players were an embarrassment with the sort of theatrics Nani would have been ashamed of. Almost. Pedro and Daniel Alves were the worst two culprits who’s actions were not the sort you’d associate with a club like Barcelona.

Then there’s the fact Mourinho is faced with the task of not only trying to beat the best team in modern history but also placating the most expectant fans in the world as well.

I’m not claiming that just because you lose a game it’s okay to question the integrity of the footballing powers that be.

Let’s face facts though, only a few weeks ago Sir Alex Ferguson was questioning the ability of Martin Atkinson and claiming that he was worried when he realised he’d be refereeing the Chelsea game.

While it was hardly the United boss’s finest hour, it just goes to show that even the most experienced manager in the world can make statements he probably shouldn’t after a bitter defeat.

Jose Mourinho is still the second most successful manager working today and arguably the only man capable of continuing the success of the most successful manager working today.

The Special One may not have covered himself in glory yesterday, but for me he’s still the right man for the job of taking over from Sir Alex.

no true manu fan would of ever wanted that prat incharge of our club for one second.

i have never liked, respected or rated that nasty piece of work who without luck would never of won a thing.

he said awful things during his last couple of press conferences and saying that unicef were somehow involved in corrupting the game was sickening.

fergie at least talks sense and doesnt say random crap and the fact was that awful ref was the reason we lost those games.

also on pepe his tackle was worse than scholes’ yet i didnt see many neutrals saying it wasnt a red.

Barcelona get a lot of help from referees — just let’s hope we don’t fall foul of it like Chelsea and Real have.

I think I have made my feelings”Crystal clear” on here regards Mourhino with facts and no hysterionics!.He is not fit for Manchester United.
The match last night which I watched, was a yawnfest, created bye Mourhino, to get a home draw at that magnifcent stadium(The Santiago Benabeu)with that huge support behind you.Do you want United to set up like that, in a home fixture, regardless of keeping in the tie, and half time after the first leg of the duel. Its a entertainment, buisness(Arsenal aside).People will fire back, surely its about winning trophies, yes!.With a style, a United style surely, the diet we have watched for many years.
Back to the match, I thought the sending off, of Pepe was harsh, but then all through the game both sides were playing acting fit to be in some Shakespear play.He needs to learn, he cant take the focus on to himself, its Club before individual.I again realise Sir Alex has deflected, attention on to himself to protect the players, I personally dont believe Mourhino is doing this, its more about look at me!
He has caused a hornets nest, around the world, do we want that type of attention at United to further give more ammunition to the ABU, press.I would suggest, nay….Implore you, Vote NO, to Mourhino, unless all you crave is a United manager running the club for maxium 5 years and flying the coop, for more self massaging exploits.
On saying this and Mourhino’s defence, its amazing how a club like Inter Milan have fallen so far after he left.To be eliminated from the competition bye Schalke 04, says it all really.
Anyhow its all opinions and what we want to see, and picture what we think is best for United.
I have a wee odd saying, opinions are like Ass, holes, every one, has one! lol

  5. Fei awale says:

United has been and will ever be an attacking entertaining team. We will never settle for mourinho’s dirty defensive tactics just to win trophies! We’re already used to winning trophies the right way! Sir Alex don’t let our history destroyed,we aren’t as desperate as chelski. Let ole gunnar be your successor.

  6. RedScot says:

“I was fortunate enough to spend some time with Jose Mourinho this week, for an exclusive interview with the Real Madrid coach broadcast on Sky Sports Revista de la Liga….”
Question 7….Does all that mean now you feel more comfortable,(Real Madrid) you’ll stay here for four years?
“I don’t know. I love Chelsea, I was in Chelsea the happiest man since the arrival of a person who should have never arrived. I was thinking I would be there all my life and a few months later, I was out. So you never know. In Inter I found an incredible family. Players; amazing. President; amazing. Then after two years I felt, even with two more years contract, I felt it was over. I need something new for me. So you never know. But when I sign a contract, I sign with the intention to respect the contract and be happy for that time. So if everything goes in the right direction, yes I will stay.”
    .
Think long and hard lads, its one of the biggest, no massive challenges that face this great club, in the future, not yet, thank the Lord.
Who would I prefer in the Champions league final on the 28th of May….Barcelona.
Justices need to be recified, and wounds healed, our manager will have it worked out, this time to get us the result. The scandal of the EUFA, pricing policy, for the match, I wont comment on here, thats a seperate debate, but the hideous pricing policy to deny non “Prawn Sarnies” out of the match, red card!
    Au Revoir.

  7. Stan says:

Jose Mourinho is the only one who has had the guts to point out the blindingly obvious. The Champions League is fixed ! This became evident when Chelsea were dumped out in the semi-finals 2 years ago by the referee. This year Arsenal were still ahead when Van Persie was sent off for not paying attention for half a second. Then the farce against Real this week ! Real would have held out at home and beaten Barcelona or got a 1-1 draw if the referee and the powers that be had not decided otherwise before the game started. Nobody will back Mourinho publicly of course as they are all scared sh*tless of losing their jobs that rake them in millions for running about a field. Well done Jose for telling it like it is. What’s the point of watching these matches when you know who is going to win beforehand? The final this year will be Man U v Barca – Man U will finish with ten men (probably Rooney to get the chop ‘cos he’s such an obvious target)- and Barcelona will win again – it’s all about the money and who’s got the most influence – get down to the bookies now and place your bets !

    • RedScot says:

Dont put Man U! to get the chop.its 90 minutes dear.
The way you communicate, you have crystal balls. Not one fact.
Why would any real supporter of football back Mourhino.Recall the win, with Inter against Barcelona last season, it was a bore?
I say put yer money on the the team with the impetus.

    • leoma says:

I have been patiently waiting for someone to say this. A big “thank you” to you. That was exactly the reason why I switched off football for more than 15 years until the arrival of Jose Mourinho to EPL that I resume my interest in football again. Barcelona is only good when they have it their way, an easy win. The whole world rejoices at Messi’s goals in an 11 v 10 game. Oh! What a shame!

  8. RedScot says:

@Stan, slippy John Terry still on your mind, not bitter? You can have him, he did not create the team Stan! If you no team building?

  9. RedScot says:

In: David Luiz (Benfica, £18m rising to £23m), Fernando Torres (Liverpool, £50m). lmao
Uniteds “Net spend” the last 5 years from the accounts of the club.Approx £5.1 Million

  10. RedScot says:

Cheers Justin a pure wind up merchant! lol
    Good laughs.Bonuit, for now.
I can cause more harm to Mourhino and you know whooooo! Else where.
Keep it Red or you are F..ing dead.
