Chicharito celebrates yet another goal

Chicharito celebrates yet another goal

As Sir Alex Ferguson looks set to place Manchester United on their new perch right at the top of English football, Steven Gerrard and Jamie Carragher have moved quickly this week to stoke the fires and suggest Liverpool’s first league title in 19 years is edging closer and closer and that Liverpool will be hell bent on taking the lead once again.

I for one however am not convinced. It’s now Sir Alex’s 12th league title since taking over at Manchester United, and the cries of ‘this time next year’ (almost Del Boy like)  have been heard from far too often from the scousers.

On the day that Dalglish signs a 3 year deal at Anfield excitement is always going to be running high with talk on Merseyside of a new generation of young players coming through that are supposedly ready to take the Premier League by storm! Don’t worry I’m not going to do a Hansen on us all and suggest they ‘won’t win anything with kids’! But would like to throw a few young names their way from our ranks here at Old Trafford that are in my opinion streets ahead of the likes of Carroll (22), Spearing (22), Shelvey (19), and Flanagan (18).

The first name I will throw your way is 20 goals into his first season in English football; Javier Hernandez. Just like Liverpool’s £35million (Yes, you read it right, they did pay that much for him) Andy Carroll, he is 22 years of age and looks a real goal threat every time he puts on the famous United strip. Maybe I’m being biased but when the great Pele says ‘He could be the next Messi because he has great talent!’ I think I’ll side with him.

As for the young full backs they’ve been boasting about over the last couple of weeks, maybe they’ve not realized we have 2 young full backs of our own in the Brazilian twins Fabio and Rafael. At just 20 years of age each and already over 100 first team appearances between them, the future is looking very bright!

We can now move onto out 2 young centre backs in Jonny Evans and Chris Smalling. With Rio Ferdinand missing most of this season and last through injury, it’s been these two that have stepped in to partner Nemanja Vidic and maintained one of the best defensive records over the last two seasons. These include games at the highest level, especially recently when they were paired together in the Champions League semi-final against Shalke to keep Raul of all people at bay.

Other young players in the Old Trafford system include Anderson, Gibson, Welbeck, Cleverley, and Macheda who have all been predicted big futures by Sir Alex. So yes, I can accept that things may be looking a little brighter than they were a few months ago, but please don’t be silly enough to suggest you’re the only club with youngsters coming through the youth system for the future.

You won’t be spouting some of those names when the Home-Grown rule comes in, methinks.

And seriously, Raul? 5 years ago it might have been a feat keeping him at bay….

    • IanWilliams says:

He got 5 in Europe this season, still a massive threat!

    • Chudi says:

Do you know how the home grown rule works?

    • Scott says:

      Are you an idiot?

      • Bobbyz says:

No. But you certainly are a patronising tit.

        • Bobbyz says:

My point was that in the not-too-distant future, bigger teams like MU are going to have to start bringing through academy youngsters again, to the level they have done in the past. Most of Liverpool’s debutant youngsters this year have been English. The rule is being brought in, in part, to try to preserve (rebuild??) the integrity of the National set up, and it is the responsibility of the teams with the best managers and youth coaches (supposedly) to do this.

I was not knocking the players; merely suggesting that pretty soon there will need to be some more Academy players brought in instead of youngsters bought in from overseas.

          OK?

        • Sorryforbeingstraightforward says:

dude…seriously!! do u really know how the home-grown rule works?! it refers to any player who has been at the club for at least 3 years from under the age of 18 as a ‘home-grown’ player…in that regard ManUtd have the most number of english players…the players mentioned here all qualify for ur kind info…rafael, fabio become home-grown next season…smalling and evans already are…macheda will also be there next season, welbeck is english anyway…so dnt wry too much about the rules buddy…Sir Alex knows that better than u…thank u! 🙂

      LFC youth 6-0 MUFC youth

      • Justin Mottershead says:

If you knew anything about the youth games, you’d know that United rested their entire team for that game as they had the FA Youth Cup semi final a few days later.

The reason they had the FA Youth Cup semi final was because they beat Liverpool at Anfield in the Q/F.

United won the semi final and are now in the FA Youth Cup final.

And don’t forget Howard Webb, our best player ever…

  3. Mos says:

As a West Ham fan, I agree you do look better than Liverpool but I just have to LOL at you taking pele seriously

  4. Juan says:

I can never understand United fans at times and Im not here to throw insults but just to make an observation.

You have been winnning the league year in year out for the past 20 seasons. Your in another European Cup final and just about to over haul our record of 18 league titles. Yet you still feel the need to justify yourselves against our manager, our youngsters and our chances for the future. When people suggested Liverpols future is bright they never said Uniteds isnt.

Your fans until recently have preffered to sing anti Scouse songs at games than pro United songs. Our fans are guilty of singing anti United chants but for us its only 2 games a year, United fans are guilty of singing anti Pool songs until recently nearly every game.

    • Justin Mottershead says:

The idea that Liverpool fans only sing anti-United songs 2 games a year is quite frankly laughable.

    • IanWilliams says:

Don’t give us that, Liverpool fans and United fans slate eachother all the time! That’s what makes it one fo the biggest footballing rivalries in the world! And in order to overturn our success you’d need to be better than us in the future, no?

  5. Laaaaaaad says:

Nahhhhh, Liverpool will win the League, or at least finish in the top 1 next season!!!!

  6. james says:

at this present time il admit utd have that little edge over us…your writing us of already??wait until next season, hopefully a couple of top class players and we’ll be right up there, im not getting carried away saying we’ll win the league, maybe we will, maybe we wont..but i know for damn sure we are on the right track!!YNWA

    • Suarez says:

Totally agree.Look at what Dalglish has done with Maxi.A player who looked average AT BEST under Hodgson. If SAF record was half as good initially United fans wouldn’t have been calling for his sacking ‘en mass’ at matches. But the teenie glory supporters wouldn’t remember that of course.Dalglish has worked miracles since his return regardless of opinion. The stats don’t lie.5 goals away at Fulham might not sound like any kind of big deal but look at the stats and the level of play. Results speak for themselves. We’ll improve next season. The older Utd fans know the score and remember the years of waiting for the title. It’s not a case of ‘if’ but ‘when’.
Money seems to dictate everything (virtually) about the modern game.Utd owe about £750,000,000 effectively making them the poorest club in World Football.
How much do Liverpool owe ?… Happy times lie ahead 🙂 Few new faces in the Summer, and who knows.Fact is we’re on the mend.
A betting man might well be tempted to have a punt. 😉

  7. Alan says:

This is the 1st championship Ferguson won with Dalglish in the Anfield dugout. Kenny is only there since January and still he got more points than Ferguson did since January. Ferguson never won one a single league from 1986-1991 when King Kenny was our manager.

And this will be the last title Ferguson wins now Dalgish is back at Anfield.

    • Ezra says:

Sorry you got your comment wrong. Kenny was Blackburn’s manager from 91-95. And Alex won trophies from 92 to 95 while Kenny was still there. Get your Facts right.

  8. patrick says:

I don’t care about all that I’m just delighted Liverpool are playing beautiful football again, watching games now is a real pleasure before Kenny it was hard to take that our team was just worried about letting goals in, but now they’re all bursting forward ripping teams apart like the good old days..Liverpool’s time will come just like Unites did..If Liverpool were winning the league and United it would make the League more exciting and the Title wins more sweet because of the rivalry.

  9. Azlan says:

    Well..
LiverFOOL fan can say what ever they want because next year will be the same old story where by the end of the the season they will say “we will win it next year!!”LOL..And their next year is still counting..LOL!!!

    • Jaminho says:

Silly silly. This is Man Uniteds problem, they are beginning to rest on their laurels. Man U play well for one reason and one reason alone, SAF. The team has become a sum of its parts rather than a quality team. And without significant investment (which there has been little of lately) ManU are going to be a completely different team once Sir Alex goes. I don’t think even Mourinho can do anything when theres no money coming in and the best players are retiring.

  10. notorious1985 says:

enjoy the last bit of success ye will have, with 750m worth of debts and Ferguson 73, ye better hope these young players are good because when ferguson retires and the success dries up and the glory hunters leave taking there prawn sandwiches with them ye will need to sell these so called top young players to service the debts. what is it 40m interest and 1.1b by the time the loan is up, enjoy happy times ahead because it makes me smile. Just sit back and watch Dalglish overtake ye, maybe not next year but certainly in the next few years. And at least when we were top of the pile we were far far ahead of ye about 12 league titles, now that yere glory period is over ye have done well to overtake our league record but ye still are 2 european cups away from catching our european record and ye are only 1 league title ahead of us. From next year ye wont even the biggest team in Manchester But dont worry in the next 20 years we will set ye some new targets to aim for.

    • jose says:

Its so long since LFC have won a title the league format has changed, its now called the premier league and i think Manu are 11 or 12 ahead, and as for the now Champion’s league, united have more than LFC there too. And with the CL if your not in it ya can’t win it, (ie. LFC)
LFC have improved massively under Kenny and credit to him, but this season was LFC’s chance with “The worst United team Fergie has ever managed” playing for united and the majority of time playing without Valencia, Park, Fletcher and Ferdinand the league was there for the taking. but knowing how to do enough to get across the line is what makes united the team they are. Next year united will be a step further in the rebuilding process and just like a couple years ago when LFC finished 2nd to United they cannot improve but united can improve so much, makes you think doesn’t it.

As for the crippling dept United are suffering so badly due to, i’m just glad united are the only club in the world turning over in excess of 1 billion per year, or I think ye may struggle, with all united’f profits going to repay loans you’d expect the loan to be getting smaller, but the 80 mil from the sale of Ron seems to have been added to the loan not taken off, I’m confused something doesn’t add up. Never the less with the Scouting network we have we shouldn’t need to pay over 6 million for any player, like Chicarito, i’d hate to be buying him this summer, gotta be worth 45mil if Carol is worth 35, anyway,
Good luck to LFC next year would love to see ya’s back in the CL again soon.
