Ravel- the skill of Giggs, the temperament of Gattuso

It was with a heavy heart I read a headline on the Guardian’s website which stated that one of the most gifted younger players at United is facing yet another assault charge.

Ravel Morrison has long been a favourite of ours at Redflagflyinghigh as we’ve been quick to jump to his defence in the past for the misdemeanors which have blighted his career.

In fact when I was recently asked by Hedd Magazine to submit an article on youngsters I felt were ‘on the brink’ of becoming first team players in the English Premier League, Morrison’s was the first name that sprang to mind.

The Wythenshawe born youngster’s problems have been well documented and this is the latest debacle which could derail his promising career.

The Guardian notes:

“Morrison, tipped to be one of the pre-eminent English footballers of his generation, appeared at Salford magistrates’ court on Wednesday charged with assaulting his girlfriend and causing criminal damage.

“The 18-year-old is already the subject of a 12-month referral order after appearing at Trafford youth court, then aged 17, in January on a separate matter.

“The latest incident allegedly took place on 19 April, the day before Morrison helped United beat Chelsea to reach the FA Youth Cup final. Morrison was given conditional bail and the case was adjourned until 25 May, when he will enter a plea.”

They say you’re innocent until proven guilty and I for one will be getting behind the prodigiously talented Morrison as long as he’s a United player. If -and it’s a big “if”- he is found guilty of assaulting his girlfriend then my support, like many other Red’s may not be quite so forthcoming for the troubled lad.

I felt the very same Justin. Innocent until proven guilty.. Yet it seems such a shame that someone with such raw talent cannot seem to keep his head in the clear.. Here’s hoping Fergie can be a little more forgiving, as i believe he could be a great player!

It would be a massive shame if such a talent with a bright future ahead of him throws it away through ill discipline. However he’s at the right club to support players through such times – my fear is that the rate he’s going he’ll burn through his nine lives before its too late. Again…. innocent til proven guilty but its not looking too Rosy from here
