Samir Nasri

Could the Frenchman be another shock Fergie swoop?

“No” seems the obvious answer with a player of Nasris quality and proven Premier League pedigree- not to mention his young age of only 23- making him surely worth at least £20 million in today’s climate.

However Nasri has only one year left on his current Arsenal deal and according to reports in the British media, the French international could leave the Emirates for a relatively modest sum.

The Independent notes:

“Manchester United yesterday began exploratory negotiations with Arsenal midfielder Samir Nasri’s representatives. Nasri has only has one year remaining on his contract with the Gunners.

“The talks were only conducted among intermediaries from both sides and did not include the Frenchman’s agent, Jean-Pierre Bernes.

“United’s willingness to open talks with the 23-year-old suggests they may be ready to capitalise on the fact Arsenal have not tied Nasri to a new contract, possibly obtaining the France international for as little as £8m.

“Should Nasri leave, it is understood he would like to stay in England, and Chelsea have indicated they are not interested.”

Wishful thinking coupled with naive reporting I hear you cry, just as I did when I first heard the story, however the Mirror weighs in with a similar piece:

“Manchester United are planning a sensational £10million swoop for Arsenal midfielder Samir Nasri.

“The Mirror has learned that United are exploring the possibility of luring Nasri – who’s out of contract at the end of the 2011-2012 season – to Old Trafford in a deal that would enrage Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger.

“United are understood to have outlined their interest in Nasri to a third party, although the France midfielder’s agent, Jean-Pierre Bernes, has not been involved in any preliminary negotiations.

“Nasri’s reluctance to enter into talks with Arsenal over a contract extension, until he is satisfied with their spending and recruitment plans for this summer, has alerted the champions to his potential availability.”

The Mail had this to say on the matter:

“United have been made aware that Nasri is definitely interested in a switch to Old Trafford. Gunners boss Arsene Wenger said last week that there was no way Nasri would be allowed to leave for United.

“Nasri has only 12 months left on his current deal but talks over fresh terms have stalled because of his wage demands.”

I’ve been sceptical about the prospects of Nasri joining United ever since the story broke and have a sneaky suspicion he may just be trying to engineer a better deal off the Gunners.

There’s far too much conjecture surrounding Nasri joining United but if he were to come to United and it’s a big IF for less than £10 million then it would represent a major coup from Sir Alex Ferguson and could prove fatal to Wenger’s Arsenal career.

£10 million…..Two Hopes….you are forgetting Ashley Young has only one year left on his contract and he is still costing you close to £20 mill, and if Ashley Young is worth that amount, Nasri is worth twice that…!!! No contest.

    Pure fantasy.

  3. GlazerH8R says:

I really don’t want Nasri at the club we already will have Young coming in and Valencia, Nani and Park in the ranks – if Nasri does come I can see Nani pulling a Ronaldo and leaving

  4. Jola says:

Nasri is undoubtedly a good player, but he didn’t last the whole of this season for Arsenal. So the big question is, where will he fit in, the wings or the middle?

  5. No Chance says:

As if Wenger would let Nasri go to Utd. Nasri will either sign a new contract with Arsenal or he’ll be sold abroad. That’s all there is to it.

Barca have shown interest and since they can’t afford Fabregas, maybe they’ll settle for Nasri?

  6. Jack says:

its hard enough to think that we could sign him, let alone for £10m and then the next question would be can he fit in here as i feel snejider offer more but with a much greater cost.

it does smell a bit like the modric for £20m story that its papers + agents = bs

  7. Arsenal Norway says:

what part of wengers statement “I can assure you Nasri is not going to be sold to united” do you not understand?.

  8. Frankie says:

    F*CK OFF you greedy c*nts.

  9. Honest Manc says:

All sounds like agent talk to me…. and Wenger has stated he wouldn’t sell to United.

But with the quality of jorno’s in the UK, I’m not suprised this story has been printed and reprinted…..

Nasri is better than anything in the current United Midfield, and is not the type to replace Scholes, Anderson. A ball winner is needed, not a Nani replacement.

  10. Jumping Jesus says:

It would be nice but I just can’t see it happening. Wenger would do just about anything to stop him coming to us because he knows the uproar it would cause among Arsenal’s support and the statement it would make about where Arsenal are at. No chance……surely…….?

i agree. no chance of him joining utd even tho i do think he is a great player i carnt see him leaving arsenal to join utd for 10m
