Jonny Evans

Even on a bad day could still keep Torres in his pocket

United’s Jonny Evans was refreshingly candid in a recent interview admitting that last season wasn’t his best.
The central defender confessed that he needs to improve should he have a realistic chance of becoming a first team regular especially with Chris Smalling and Phil Jones now in the squad.

ESPN notes:

“Jonny Evans has admitted he needs to add strength to his game if he is to fulfil his potential at Manchester United.

“The defender recently spoke of his determination to fight for his future at Old Trafford. United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has brought in Phil Jones from Blackburn and with Nemanja Vidic, Rio Ferdinand and Chris Smalling also on the books, Evans’ chances are likely to be limited.

“The Northern Ireland international is aware he can improve his game and strengthening up in the gym is an area he has highlighted.

“I possibly need to strengthen up a little bit, be a bit more aggressive,” Evans said. “I was a bit inconsistent last year and had a bit of a dip in form, playing well sometimes. I need to get that level of consistency.”

Some of the stick Evans got from United fans last season was in quite frankly disgraceful and although he was infuriating at times, he still showed that he can be a top class player when he’s at the top of his game.

Let’s just hope he’s given a chance, not just by the manager but by the fans aswell.

Great to see a player accept that he needs to do better. I for one can’t wait to see him back on his game; mind you, he’ll be pushed hard by Jones and Smalling.

I thought his best performances last season were at left back. Maybe he is the reason SAF let O’Shea go.

He is a good pro. He will play left back at times next season to help give Evra more rest as well. He is an important member of the squad.

  4. Can be a great player. Hopefully he will have a better season
