Will he feature for the first team this season?

Sir Alex Ferguson has given his biggest hint that Paul Pogba will play in the first team this season. He has been highly impressed with the FA Youth Cup winning midfielder and it seems he may have the chance of helping to fill the void left by Paul Scholes.

In his press conference this morning, Sir Alex Ferguson told ManUtd.com:

“We’ve got Darren Fletcher to come back. Michael Carrick, who tends to develop more around November/December. And we’ve got a young boy Pogba who’s showing great promise for us. He came on in a couple of games in terms of progress with the youth team, we’re quite positive about him.”

“I mean if we hold Pogba back, what’s going to happen? He’s going to leave. You know, in a couple of years’ time when his contract is going to finish. So we have to give him the opportunity to see how he can do in the first-team and he’s got great ability, plus he’s got the physique and athleticism.”

“He is a possibility so, when you take that roll call of players you know, I’m certainly not looking to add anybody. I’ve been saying that for weeks, but you’ve all been writing differently, you’ve all been writing about how I’m going to buy this one, I’m going to buy that one but we’ve said nothing, I’m carrying on with business.”

When asked about Wesley Sneijder he replied, “You can forget about anyone you like. I’m happy with the young players we’ve got.”

Sir Alex Ferguson then talked about the young prospects in the squad. Possibly the likes of Tom Cleverley, Paul Pogba, Ravel Morrison and Ryan Tunnicliffe.

“Well, I mean my intention is not to put pressure on anyone,” he stressed. “My intention is to get the best team I can for United. There’s an emphasis on young players in the squad and there always has been.

“There’s a case where a young player comes through the ranks and that they can threaten anyone. Because if they have the ability and the temperament, there’s only one thing you can do and that’s play them.

“It happened with Ryan Giggs and Lee Sharpe, who was doing very well at the time, showing great promise and what happens? Ryan Giggs appears and Ryan Giggs gets the spot – it’s that horrible business of somebody’s ability being better than yours.”

Sir Alex Ferguson also went on to confirm to ManUtd.com that David De Gea will play on Sunday.

nice one. Pogba is gonna be a world-beater. Sneijder would have been a nice addition, but wa-a-a-a-a-ay too expensive, both in terms of transfer price and wages. Nasri would have been a good addition but City must have thrown money at him, and he obviously wants the rent and not the silverware. So no worries, that gives us the chance to bring through a bunch of super talented kids, again. Pogba will be a first team regular by this time next year and an international regular a year later

I’ve been calling out for a couple of years to give him some game time because I think he’s been ready for a while. Having heard all that form Fergie today, it’s weird that according to United website he hasn’t been given a squad number http://www.manutd.com/en/News-And-Features/Football-News/2011/Aug/Squad-numbers-announced.aspx

I think it might be the best move. I would have loved Sneidjer but he is really expensive. Also he seems to concerned with his wages. We need players with hunger and passion, not players looking for a fat pay cheque. That is what Man City is for. If he really wanted to play for us then he would have. But he didn’t care either way and just wanted money.

The time has come for Anderson, Cleverley and Pogba to step up and take control of our midfield. We have Carrick and Fletcher, but the other three will make the difference. Anderson in particularly will need to step up this season and become a regular in the team. He has all the attributes to do it. He has shown improvement in his finishing also.

Cleverley is an intelligent midfielder and deserves a chance in our team. He will be a great asset. Pogba is young but has great potential. He needs games to supplement his ability and this season it should happen for him.

I wonder where were those who wrote earlier on the ‘must buy Sneijder” philosophy and condemning SAF on his decision that MUFC can never match the might of Barcelona. These people are not aware that the noisy neighbours have spent and still spending $$$ just to bridge the gap created by us. Please have some RESPECT for the gaffer who has got what it takes to make MUFC the greatest club not just in England but the WORLD! $$$ can’t buy the noisy neighbours that! So how can 1 Sneijder do to make us better in the long run? With the likes of Morrision, Kean, Tunnicliffe, Pogba, Cleverley, etc etc these are the long term solution. Sneijder is already past 27 coming 28 … how many more years can he serve us for 35m pounds and in excess of 200,000 pounds per week. He can never be Giggs, Scholes – “The Irreplaceable Ones” and do not SAF – The Unbelievable One and Only”

pogba would be a satisfactory inclusion. though it would have been a bit more comfortable with the expirience of the world class sneijder.on the other hand saf talking about carrick and fletcher feels retrogressive on the progress man-u have made so far. their contribution is completely wanting to a keen eye and not enough to set sights on the champions league. saf should look to conquer in the champions league. as i have said before, it would be mediocre just to seek to win the premier league. it would be fairer to come up with a world-class champions league-beating midfield. we are number one in the premier league what about the champions league?

Great to have Cleverly and Pogba ready to make the break through while Anderson is ready to finally realize his ability but really we don’t need Sneijder? I think we do.

  8. AJ says:

We dont need Sneijder with the talent we have. It is great Cleverley is now in the first team and it is great hearing Pogba will feature aswell, hope Tunnicliffe/Morrison also gets a look in. The total package for Sneijder would of been ridiculous, the transfer fee of £35m, the wage of £20,000-25,000 a week on a 4/5 year contract, it would of come to £75-100m and not worth it. We dont need Sneidjer anyway with the incredible youngster we have.

  9. Andrew says:

Paul Pogba will be a monster of a player one day, but it’s a decision of whether its with us or not. I think Ferguson knows this and doesn’t want to lose him. He will go on to play for France one day and I hope he is a Man Utd player when it happens.

I actually think we might be a little stronger in centre midfield this season. My reason is because of the fresh legs of Cleverley and Pogba. They are young, but they are hungry and want to play for Man Utd. Also the improvements that Anderson has started to show is encouraging. Ando and Pogba are box to box midfielder’s and that’s what we needed.

  10. Linn says:

    absolutely loving him.

    this kid can play…
and I dont’ want wesley sniejder very much because it will also limit Anderson, Park and Cleverley’s total games, we need young guys to develop, last year loanees are now doing awesome, I am hoping this season, we will be able to see similar products like becks, scholes, neville brothers era.

may more glory days for young blood!!!
