Gabriel Obertan

Time to finally move on?

French winger Gabriel Obertan is set to join Newcastle according to reports circulating today, The former Bordeaux wide man is set to leave on a deal worth around £3 million.

The Mail notes: Manchester United winger Gabriel Obertan has agreed a five-year contract with Newcastle and will complete his move to Tyneside next week.

Obertan leaving is one of the less surprising transfers at Old Trafford this Summer as he’s struggled to convince he can be anything other than a bit part player in his two years at the club.

The arrival of Ashley Young has pushed Obertan even further down the pecking order and for a player once regarded as the next big thing to come from the famous Clarefontein Academy, he’s come nowhere near to living up to the hype.

A meagre 28 first team appearances, many of which were in the Carling Cup or group stages of the Champions League merely highlights how Obertan has struggled at United.

It’s a shame as Obertan has shown the occasional glimpse of brilliance, but it’s been far too rare and more often than not in the reserves.

Well sometimes people need a proper chance to shine, don’t forget the lad is still only 22 so most of the time you have had him he was still developing, you also have to factor in that unless he is getting played fequently the chances are he will lose any confidence he had.

I think he’ll be able to show the quality he has and will improve at Newcastle, but not to the extent that we’ll regret selling him. What formation do Newcastle play? I’ve said time and time again he’s best as a wide forward in a 4-3-3, but we’ll have to see. I’ll look forward to watching him every now and then and all the best to him.

Fao Jonathan, well with all the MF players we’ve signed I suspect we’ll be playing a 3-6-1 formations.. lol

Na, only kidding, will possibly be a 4-4-1-1 or a 4-3-3 formation… hope this guy is as good at the frenchies we’ve signed, we’ve almost got a full french 11 now.. lol

Got no idea formation we are going to play Pardew has hinted at playing 4 4 1 1 with Ben Arfa playing off the striker. Ben Arfa is injured at the minute so unsure what formation we will play.
