FT Fulham 0-5 Manchester United. Welbeck, Nani, Giggs, Rooney, Berbatov.

Starting XI:

Anders Lindegaard – 8

The Danish goalkeeper recorded his 6th clean sheet in only his 8th Manchester United appearance. He didn’t have much to do in the first half but he was called upon a lot more in the second half. Lindegaard made some great saves during the second half and was vital in keeping a clean sheet. He really wasn’t kidding when he said he’s not here to pick his nose.

Phil Jones – 7

Played great until he was substituted for injury. Even after being dazed and he could barely stand, Phil Jones still made a vital goal saving tackle. That moment itself summed up exactly what Phil Jones is about.

Chris Smalling – 7

Had a very solid game in his preferred centre back role. Made some important blocks throughout the game.

Jonny Evans – 8

Another great performance from Jonny Evans. Was noticeably commanding at the back all game. Jonny Evans looks in great form and has justified his continued selection in the team in captain Nemanja Vidic’s absence.

Patrice Evra – 6

An efficient game for Patrice Evra. Handled everything he had to do with relative ease.

Michael Carrick – 7

Michael Carrick extends his run in the team with an extension of his fine run of form. He had a very good game, did the defensive side of the game well and was always available for the pass. Michael Carrick’s ability on the ball was mirrored by Manchester United’s dominance in the game.

Ryan Giggs – 8

1 goal and 2 assists capped off a fantastic performance by Ryan Giggs. He just doesn’t get older does he? Ryan Giggs was superb all game. He complimented Michael Carrick well in the centre of the Manchester United midfield.

Antonio Valencia – 8

Valencia was dangerous throughout the game. As Phil Jones was injured he was moved to play at right back and did his defensive duties well. Going forward Antonio Valencia was often available for the overlap and crafted many chances for the Manchester United attack which led to him assisting a goal.

Nani – 9

A man of the match and a match winning performance from Nani. He finished the game with 1 goal and 2 assists. Nani showed once again why he is one of Manchester United’s most important players.

Wayne Rooney – 7

Rooney was tidy in possession and went about doing his job in an effective manner. His goal was one to be desired; an absolute screamer of a goal.

Danny Welbeck – 7

Had a very good game. Scored the opener for Manchester United. Welbeck kept finding space intelligently and his work rate defensively from up front was brilliant. His link up play was great and he was unlucky not to have scored a second on the night.

Substitutes:

Ashley Young – 6

Came on for Phil Jones. Didn’t particularly get involved in the game too much. Had a few dangerous runs and was tidy in possession. His game was then halted by an injury where he himself was substituted. Sir Alex Ferguson confirmed after the game that he will be out for 2 to 3 weeks.

Park Ji-Sung – 6

Replaced Ashley Young. Had some nice touches and made some intelligent passes. Didn’t have too long to make his impact on the game.

Dimitar Berbatov – 7

He came on for Danny Welbeck. He was not on the field for too long but his touch was as classy as ever and he showed that by scoring a genius of a goal.

Evans has been good recently…maybe the City game has made him realise he should buck up his ideas. Long may it continue.
