Sir Alex Ferguson has denied interest in Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard in light of recent rumours in two national newspapers; The Daily Mail and The Daily Star.

He addressed the rumours as well as other issues in his recent press conference on Friday morning.

“Do you really think Chelsea would sell to United in January? There’s no foundation in that. Chelsea want to do something in the second half of the season so they want to keep their best players.”

He went on to say:

“What can you get in January? The players we’d like, we can’t get. If the alternative is to sign a second-rate player, we don’t want to do that.”

“Our injuries have led to fans wanting us to sign someone but I don’t want to sign a player who won’t get a game when everyone’s fit because he’s not good enough.”

It is clear to see that the manager is looking to sign someone however signing just any player is unacceptable for the manager. As has been said before, if a long term target becomes available I believe that we will sign a player.

I don’t believe a word that Ferguson utters in regards to transfer activity. MAN Utd clearly have no intention of buying anyone of any value (during any transfer window) but continues the pretence of being interested in high profile targets (presumably) simply to placate /fool the fans.

Fergie has been using the same lines now for 3 seasons and its starting to get a little wearing (not to mention very disingenuous)..
