Brazilian teenage sensation Lucas Moura is the latest transfer target who could be heading to Old Trafford according to the latest reports in the British press.

The Mirror notes:

Manchester United have made a £20million-plus bid for Brazilian wonder boy Lucas Moura – and want him signed before he plays in the Olympics.

United are now in official negotiations for the Samba starlet who is their top target for the new season, as Mirror Sport revealed, and the opening offer could rise in the coming days.

Boss Sir Alex Ferguson has given the go-ahead to spend a chunk of his budget on the Sao Paulo sensation who would walk into his side even at the age of 19.

Lucas is set to figure for Brazil in the Olympics and United are reportedly keen to hammer out a deal before the winger makes a big impression at such a high-profile event.

The Independent claim that United will face stiff competition for the Sao Paolo youngster and add £10 million on to the transfer, noting:

The Red Devils are not the only club thought to be pursuing the midfielder, as Inter Milan, Real Madrid and Chelsea are all thought to be keen on him.

His father has already held talks with the Italians this week, while Manchester United are thought to have sent negotiators to meet with Sao Paulo officials to discuss a potential £30m transfer.

Signing a player of Lucas’s ability – he’s one of the most talked about youngsters in Brazil- would excite the fans of any club and United should be no different. Call me a cynic but with a gaping hole still in the middle of the park crying out for someone who can actually win the ball not just do things when he’s been given it, I’m still of the opinion that it’s a ball winner in the Chieck Tiote mould the Reds need.

If we do sign Lucas though, don’t expect me to complain.

this summer we have been linked with alot of players and Lucas would be an excellent signing but until it happens its just paper talk.

if we believe various reports from the beginning of the summer we were mainly after (barring a few kids and since then we have been linked to a bunch of players who play similar roles.)

    Powell
    Kagawa
    Hazard
    Tiote
    Baines
    Modric

now whether the plan was to fill all of these holes, a few of them or the papers made half of them up, i dont know.
i would stick Lucas in place of Hazard and in a dream world we would also pick up players who fill the roles of the others.

i agree our no1 target should be someone in the Tiote mould but we have no idea if its even true, who else we are chasing and if we have any cash to spend.

we will probably be left hoping that we can sign someone on deadline day and end up disappointed like the last few summers.

what????? for god sake sign lucus!. he IS a united player. we dont need a defensive centre midfielder. we already have cleverly, carrick, fletcher, scholes, giggs, anderson. why would you not want lucas? he is a genius

This has been a summer of being linked to a lot of players but not much actually happening. Lucas Moura looks a talent though and I would be delighted if he signed, but like most Man Utd fans, I won’t be surprised if he signs for Inter Milan or Real Madrid instead.

We don’t seem to be dealing with the central midfield issue. I know we have Cleverley, Carrick and Scholes but we need another one, if not two. I would go for a Belgium double in Moussa Dembele and Axel Witsel. I think we could get Dembele for £10 million as he has one year on his deal left. I would hope £8 million + Anderson would get Witsel to Old Trafford.

A very good young player if he cost £20 million, but possibly £30 million will be too much money. He plays in a role which isn’t a priority, as we have Valencia, Young and Nani already. We need to get a central midfielder. I would love to see a talent like Lucas Moura arrive at Man Ud, but we need more.

Luka Modric would have been perfect but he’s going to Real Madrid. I hope Ferguson knows who he wants and is on course to sign someone.

Would be great to have this lad if it was only £10 mill. But we need a centre mid who can win the ball & join in the attack. Fletch ain’t comming back, Scholes can’t do it week in week out, Cleverly needs more time, Anderson has had his chance & Carrick cannot do it against top quality midfielders. We need Javi Martinez & would be happy to give them £20 mill + Anderson.

After the world cup I’m starting to think Carrick deserves more respect. He is one of very few Englishmen who can actually look after the ball & not give it away. Based on Barca & Spain the future of football will be not giving the ball away.
