With the race for Robin Van Persie now seemingly a one horse one, many pundits have been wondering just why megabucks Manchester City, the club first linked with the Dutchman are seemingly no longer contenders for his signature.

Some have put it down to City’s Brian Marwood dragging his heels with the deal, while others have claimed it’s more to do with the Premier League Champions needing to cut their wage bill. The answer may lie in Van Persie’s former teammate Emmanuel Adebayor. The above picture is taken from a Premier League clash at Eastlands back in 2009 where Adebayor stamped on his former colleague’s face, in a vicious unprovoked attack which resulted in a four match ban once the footage was examined by the FA.

The attack left RVP sporting a bloody face.

Following the incident Van Persie issued a statement where he noted:
“He [Adebayor] set out to hurt me. I do feel lucky that I have not received a greater injury. I knew he was aiming for a collision because he changed the angle of his body to allow contact to be made.

“The contact was only centimetres from my eye. I have not received an apology from him, there were no words exchanged afterwards. He had his own agenda today and that is bad for football. It’s bad for the game we all love.

“I, too, have made hard and sometimes mistimed challenges but never with the intention of hurting an opponent.

“He has shown a real lack of class, to me and the fans. We do not hide from the disappointment of losing the match but I need to speak out about his behaviour.”

Adebayor’s proposed move to Spurs has fallen through due to strikers wage demands and you have to wonder whether VanĀ  Persie thought the idea of sharing a dressing room with him, was something he just couldn’t entertain. Just a thought……

Yet again Fergie / United / Glazers (You decide!!) have yet again prolonged a tranfer to the point that the players are pi$$ed off and sign for another club!!!!
This will be the 3rd transfer we’ve made silly mistakes on and it makes you wonder what is going on behind the scenes really. For example Hazard to Chelsea, Lucas to PSG and now Van Persie more than likely staying @ Arsenal!!
Somebody needs to get a grip and wrap up the transfers ASAP. FFS City signed Rodwell in a day!!! We can’t sign a player in the space of 2 months!!! Either we do / dont have the money and if we do lets get it spent on some quality!!!

Go Rampant Red. Your history is Important! Your future is wrapped up in the collective octogenarian total age of Giggs and Scholesy. In a less controversial note, the MCFC store is selling the Barclays Premiere League winners badge in Gold for our new 2012/2013 shirts. Is this for Champions only or can runners up by the gold one too?

Judging by all these comments football is making us evolve backwards. Not sure if Van Persie will make it here but surely wenger will go sell him or his contract will run out & Arsenal will lose 15-20 mil on him.

The majority of the comments here are made by complete retards that would struggle to spell their own name!!

The article itself is quite correct in mentioning the Adebayor/RVP history…of course it plays a part in his decision, along with wanting avoid being part of an already potent four player attack at city.

Its funny how when city were in line to get RVP, all the fans wanted him and Utd supporters said he was shit, now Utd lead the race, City supporters think he’s shit and Utd supporters are rubbing it in City’s face. Grow up. I hope Wenger sells him to Juve for less money to shut everyone up.

The stupidity of some Utd and Shitty fans shows you up for the half witted plebs that you are; whilst the deluded senseless belief of some arsenal fans embarrasses me. Classless city. Talentless Mancini. Arrogant Utd. Legendary Fergy. Deluded Arsenal. genius Wenger.
